VEGAS Pro Feature Requests

One thing I'd like is a switch to lock event position. But unlike the current lock-switch, it should not lock anything else like the trimming, event-fade, grading, or fx. Or perhaps a preference setting to make the current lock-switch behave like that globally.

I also wish Vegas would get away from splitting clips in multicam editing. Instead, manipulating an envelope (like video composite level) would eliminate allot of grading complications and glitches caused by clip-slivers the current split/mute approach often sprinkles about.

Would also like to see the current video composite envelope generalized. With the added capability to drop any transition onto envelope slopes. Similar to the current functionality of dropping video transitions onto event-fades.

@J-Toresen and @Former user, I know I can adjust the gain of an individual clip. What I want to do, without the "blue line" throughout the entire track, is to keyframe one clip. Using "V" to let me use keyframes, I have to additionally make sure that at the end of the clip, to have it keyframe back to it's original volume setting.

Sorry I didn't make it clearer.

A very good idea @Reyfox . The only thing I would like to add is that the presumption IMO would be that the start/end of an event only audio envelope would be set by default at neutral (i.e neither plus nor minus). An important question howver is how an event limited audio envelope would interact with the track level audio envelope (i.e. 'V').

@Dexcon, the overall track volume would also affect the overall volume of the keyframed audio in a clip. But again, you have the ability to adjust that one clip and keyframe the volume to what you want, say in doing this in audio ducking.

Below is a screenshot of a consumer editor where you can adjust the volume of the entire track, and also keyframe any clip or adjusting the volume of a clip up or down. To keyframe a clip, just double left click on the green volume line.

@Reyfox  ... from that timeline image, its unfortunately contrary to my audio editing style. While on the first audio event the audio level is twice ducked (good), the audio levels between the following events are hard cuts. I'd be dissolving the audio by 8 -12 frames (J/L) to avoid the hard audio cut - but that's just the approach that I'd take - many others will obviously differ.

Also, I can't see any difffernce to what has long been available in VP. Since all the audio levels on the audio events are reduced rather than increased (which in VP involves having to add the Volume FX to increase volume) - its equally easy to reduce an audio track's volume in VP.

Based on the audio timeline given, I honestly can't see what advantage there is over what is currently available in VP with 'V' timeline enveloping and individual volume lowering by audio event in VP. Sorry, but maybe i'm missing somthiing.

@Dexcon, in my screenshot, it wasn't an actual editing for a video. I was trying to show what can be done. You can fade in/out, keyframe, what ever you want between clips. I wanted to show what can be done with a single clip. With Vegas, to keyframe, you have to use "V", correct? That puts a blue line throughout the entire track. So if you are keyframing just one event, you have to make sure at the end of that keyframing that the next event that you don't want any change, is keyframed.

In the screenshot, I can do whatever I want to one event and never worry about making sure that the next event is affected.

Track volume level can be adjusted like in Vegas. Volume level at the event can be adjusted. Then also at the event, audio ducking.

I would also like to see something on the media assets in Project Media that will let you know if it has been used.

A green check mark or any other visible mark on the asset that lets me know at a glance what has been used.

Screenshot is from a consumer editor. You can also rate the asset with a star is you want, then search the Library for everything that has that star rating. But I will settle for any indicator that an asset has been used.

I'd like to know why in VP21 they thankfully made the delete button a bold red colour but when keyframing the FX's they got rid of the bold blue to red & changed it to a little red cross!. "Lets fix that but screw up this" 🤦‍♂️ What were they thinking? 🤷‍♂️

It would be nice to be able to vary the size of the envelope points or anchor points on the timeline to make them appear larger visually.

Maybe even better, from a GUI / UX point of view;

Highlight the complete line, make the active (selected) line a bit thicker.

Show grips at the surface of the dots and turn the selected anchor point into a circle with a highlight behind it.

This way it's super clear which point is active and what the other Bezier points can do / how they will (re-)act.

Bonus option : set the type of line, e.g. solid / dashed / dotted / etc...

So the color visually impaired (colorblind) can see from the shape which kind of line it is and not only by color.

This can be done by simply right clicking on the enveloppe (the stroke-type comes together with a color-picker for that active line).

Update - added a color-picker along the line-style.

Of course it's a mockup and not "the way UI is done", but it's a concept.

Rightclick on an enveloppe and all the options you need are there.

Maybe even set the thickness (upper right in the menu) and you're done.

Would make it much easier to configure all those nasty lines :-)

When I type text, I type in full-width characters because I'm Japanese, but the keyboard shortcuts in Vegas Pro don't respond to full-width characters, which is very inconvenient. In full-width mode, the spacebar for playback does not respond either, so we have to press the half-width/full-width key in the upper left corner, which the Japanese keyboard has, every time we finish entering text. I would like all systems to support full-width characters

RogerS wrote on 11/25/2023, 7:16 AM

I'd like the HEVC templates to default to lower bitrates to yield similar quality to AVC at the default bitrates. At the moment they are identical for a given resolution and framerate.

Even better would be options to set a quality metric as an alternative to guessing bitrates.

bitman wrote on 11/26/2023, 2:41 AM

I would Like the Vegas Content (especially the audio) have a toggle on/off to display the name only of the audio sample. Now both the length and name are displayed under each audio item, but due to the limited space (5 audio clips per line) the number of characters identifying the name of each audio clip is only 5 long, the rest is only ... and the length. I would like to have the option to disable the display of the length (and omitting the ...) , because now I honestly cannot make out what to select and try out of a full screen of the first 5 character long names of songs and sound effects.
