VEGAS Pro Feature Requests

Comments

Eric-Weichhart wrote on 8/1/2024, 9:37 AM

I know requests around Titles & Text were asked many times, but I'm hoping for some small changes:

  • Being able to save animations in the preset (as using the pan-crop filter requires re-adjusting if the location is changed)
  • Using a gradient for the text color directly
  • Having some options around the background crop (even it's basic like a slider for how far from the text and another for the corners roundness)

I know there is ProTitler for more options and the legacy text for better font support, but these can't be used for captions or subtitle importing

I myself created a render script sir.

Quick Render (Please Try It and Review)

but it will be better if VEGAS have its own render function well furnished with all needs full filled.

  • When Sync Cursor option while key animation is ON, then a signal should keep triggered to remind user of its ON state. like Auto Ripple red cursor update trigger.
  • Adjustment Layer Should have a different identity or color from video & audio track's design to get recognized fast.
  • Pin any video track on Top so that whenever user add any track it will add below of it. Can be useful at many situations like adding logo, master color correction or much more.
  • Track names should be highlighted like in below image or something else
  • Heights of Audio Tracks & Video Tracks can be adjusted from Ctrl + Mouse Wheel (if it is empty) and if it is possible then user can adjust height of any individual track by just hovering on it and use mouse wheel with ctrl or shift or alt. which key combination is empty.
  • Import / Export Preferences should also Import / export Layouts, Keyboard shortcuts, FX packages, OFX presets (My Documents) and specially tool bar
    •  because registry entry method doesn't work every time.
  • Add Separate Button here (for fast insertion)
  • Double click on preview window to bypass zoom (double click is empty)
  • Composition Modes Should Be Change with Hover Mouse and Scroll (for fast picking up)
  • Search Bar (For Desktop Search) can be added at empty space on Preview window. Which can search whole desktop for only video, audio, images, psd, xml, veg or all vegas supported files to drag and drop Fastly.

I am loving the overall improvements / direction of 22 so far but here are some things I would still love to see....

-searchable FX dialog (input a few characters like "comp*" for a compressor, "eq*" etc.)

-ProRes RAW...............................................................ever?

-10 bit render options other than just HEVC

- ability to import FX packages from earlier versions without having to pay again. My favorite audio DAW (REAPER,) continues to have access to all plugins I ever installed, it doesn't tie them to a particular version. I realize this may be tied to VST support in some cases...it stinks to lose for example BCC Primatte when going from 19 to 22 and I don't want to spend literally $1000 extra to get Continuum when I used to have most of it in earlier versions (which I am not going back to now that I have seen the overall glory of 22 as a program)

- a built in "Volume" effect that has per-channel (L/R) relative volume adjustment instead of being tied to both channels at once (or having to do workarounds to get the same result)

- increase number of masks available in an instance of Bezier Masking beyond the current limit of 5 and allow for more customization of mask shapes

- ability to save an FX chain (with settings preserved) as a custom FX template. You can kinda fake this by opening another project with the desired settings/FX and paste a copy of the track into the new session, but it would be great if it could just be done in the FX browser

- I do LOVE that you can just add FX to a track though, please please don't ever take that away! IT drives me BONKERS in Premiere that you have to add FX to each clip, the Vegas way is SO.MUCH.BETTER. And Vegas ALSO allows you to put FX directly on clips too if you like that, so it's best of both words. So I guess this last one here is a "do NOT change" request! 😁

It was always possible to save your own FX chain, inclusive used keyframes. Those FX chains show up as Filter Packages in the Plugin Chooser:

@jonnymomovies & there's Media FX that will add the fx to the event's separate parts after it's been cut up & those parts moved around.

well, I feel dumb...thanks so much for pointing that out! I will have to look when I get home to find where the button is to save a chain as a package.

As for the media FX thing after a clip is cut up...that's cool, and as already stated you could always add a FX to a clip then cut it and move the sections around, but that doesn't help if one were to have several different source clips that all need the same treatment...but I suppose that's where adjustment layers come in...only rub there is you have to think more about what is stacked over what. But some good points nonetheless.

I still maintain though that I hope they never take away the ability to add FX at the track level, to me that is one feature of VP that sets it apart from others.

similarly, i LOVE how Vegas handles Pan/Crop, and hate how it's done in several other programs.

Rest of my list still stands (I think)

Thanks again for the info.

HINT:

and most important key frames are also saved, means animations can also be saved as a Filtertemplate for future use.

People probably are wondering about this since it was teased a few years ago. I will be honest with you...while we had something near ready for this, we did not get Apple's approval for our implementation and while we wanted to get back to this, the engineer who worked on this is no longer on the VEGAS team. For the foreseeable future, the people who handle format support are much more focused on the new video engine and improving the performance of the existing formats instead of implementing new file format support.

davewire wrote on 8/13/2024, 3:55 AM

I don't know if this has already been asked but I find that the LUT filter plugging is not very practical, it would be necessary to integrate a viewer to preview the hundreds of LUTs that we can have in a folder by being able to import them ! A bit like Magic Bullet Looks with mini inserts of the photo or video with the LUT applied to better make our choice.

UltraVista wrote on 8/13/2024, 6:51 PM

I'd like support for dual NVENC encoders, I think the 1080ti had 2, and now 4070ti (maybe 4070super) and higher have dual NVENC's. Currently Vegas will only use 50% of each encoder. There is a Nvidia paper about how to support this in software I recall it's GOP related, first encoder doing 1,3,5,7 GOP etc, while 2nd encoder is doing 2,4,6,8.

It is not necessary right now, because the Vegas encoder is so slow, but there may be a time soon where a single encoder will be saturated due to ongoing improvements within Vegas

iEmby wrote on 8/19/2024, 1:09 AM

there should be a fastest way to access safe area and grid settings if possible from preview window (not only apply them also set them as user want) and also can be set with live preview.

look at this click.

i have to close preferences every time to check where it is

@relaxvideo Quality wise? Have not noticed quality problems, speed wise H.265 1080P 486fps, 4K 136fps 8k 35fps which is hopefully the same as single NVENC, it's only using 50% of each NVENC, I'd prefer it use 100% but it's up to the software to do that via 2x simultaneous encodes which would be muxed together at the end. I'd prefer it all be transparent and software just has to push frames at encoder. Disappointing.

if possible, please enable VEGAS to event's colors to get recognized like in this multicamera editing.
if one camera is red then another is orange then it can be recognizable so fast.
