Vegas Pro "Protype Titler" deserves an update

Thanks for your detailed reply Amivideotek! I think PTT should be upgraded as well. I never understood the way they handled fonts (no point sizes) and and most other adjustments (a percentage?). For now I'm going to stick with NewBlue and PTT. My jobs are fairly simple and the videos I produce would not benefit from glitzy titles. I doubt I'll be investing any more cash into any titler soon.

Just noticed this post, and curious:

It is for sale presets - just check the description in YouTube - but in the video, he showed the behind the scene on how to work with the templates.

When I first knew PTT, I agree it was a powerful text tool, except that I feel it requires a lot of time to create one unique title. I rarely spending a lot of time on making creative titles.

Wide range of choices now for creative titling and I believe everything can be combined as long as you know how to do it...

I think this is very nicely done. I love this kind of animation!
Bravo to the creator of this pack.
You see cascading animation of a text in VP can be done letter by letter or you can use ProType Titler!
As I said before, ProType Titler is the future 📡🚀🌌🏆💡📈💲😀 and should be further developed in my opinion!

I hope the developers of Vegas Pro see this as well as I see this!

Thank you for the post.

@Amivideotek - My opinion? Not ever gonna happen. It appears to me that the VP Developers would rather allow and be dependant on 3rd party partners to pickup the slack.

I’ve expensively “flirted” with, NEWBLUE TITLER Pro, it used to be great, now it’s a mess with no Support-Roadmap for a way back with Support tickets ignored or recognised there are bugs and there it stays; BORIS Titler is clunky and brim full of Bugs when used as a VegasPro Plug; If ProTypeTitler was to be developed further by VegasSoftware we would have known by now, we haven’t. So, as others, I’m needing to fall back on Title and Text and that other one.

Recap: VP is stuck in the Past with ancient Titlers, and dependant on 3rd Parties, being polite here, ill-placed at best and not wishing to change this “comfortable”, risk-averse, status quo.

Are there any NLEs with ideal, well working and innovative titlers in existence? If not, perhaps this should be left for an innovative third party programmer. Perhaps an animation developer should take this on, but has any of the big or smaller ones and if not, why would that be?

@Paul-Fierlinger - You’ve asked the BEST question! The answers lie deep in the DNA of VegasPro.

Heroglyph from Pro Dad has not yet been mentioned here - does anyone here use it as a plug-in to their satisfaction?
I used to have frequent crashes with it in former Vegas-versions and since then I only use it as a stand alone and then import the files with, or without an alpha channel.
It is getting on in years and quite bumpy to use, but the results are impressive.

Grazie wrote on 2/2/2021, 4:13 AM

@walter-i. - Indeed. As long as Third Parties try and wrangle our beloved VegasPro to behave itself, the more those s/w houses will run away. NBTP has attempted to make an external plug work on return to the VP TL to give full FrameRate. It’s not happening.

I will not say it's THE ideal, well working and innovative Titler in existence, but it is far and far above of what Vegas has to offer and one of the reasons that I more and more frequently edit with my other (consumer) NLE. (see my signature).

@3POINT I agree. I have a couple of consumer editors that have a better built in title program than Vegas. One has had Boris BCC and NBFX TP5 too. They also include "canned" effects that can quickly make a titling chore much easier and faster, so I can spend time doing something else. But honestly, Vegas just edits on the timeline much better.

To have to rely on 3rd party (means more money spent) for title work just doesn't seem right. If a less than $100 consumer edit can do it, why not Vegas? I'm not asking for BCC Title Studio, but something a little more current than what is offered, which has been around since.....

ProType was deprecated because there were several VEGAS text editors at once point, which is confusing to the end-user, and the team decided to build the features that we all love about ProType into the current titler system along with further upgrades. ProType will likely still be available in deprecated features until this transition completes, however... perhaps even indefinitely considering there's preset packs and such out for ProType that would be broken if they removed it completely.

Just know they're planning on making some big updates at some point to the titler system, but first and foremost, they are focusing on improving stability, compatibility, and performance. They can only focus on so much at once, and right now, those 3 things are the things that are going to benefit us all the most for them to put attention into.

AMD Ryzen 7 1800x 8 core 16 thread at stock speed

Let's be realistic. The Vegas folks spoke when they moved ProType to "deprecated". If memory serves me correct ProType was farmed out by Sony Creative. I don't think it's even compiled in the same program language. Let me be clear, I would love to see ProType developed. But the chances are nil for a multitude of reasons. In the meantime I use it when it makes sense. Like Grazie I've been down the NewBlue route and gave up a long time ago. For complex situations I use BCC Titler Pro. And like Grazie, I'd say it's clunky.

Re problem issues with NBFX Titler Pro 7, NBFX have just released an update to Total FX which contains the following updates for Titler Pro 7:

New Features

Users can now edit title names directly from Titler Pro's Title List

  • This quality of life change streamlines workflow by removing the need to load a title before renaming.

Added option to specify cache directory in Titler Pro

  • Users now have more control over hard disk management by choosing a custom directory to store cached title files.

Bug Fixes

Fixed incoherent names in "Shared Title" drop-down list

  • The "design sharing" drop-down menus now use names from the Title List (instead of the previously used internal Titler ID).

Restored new title workflow for Premiere.

  • Restored Titler Pro 7 to Premiere's default "New Synthetic" behavior when adding new titles.

I can't find anything on NBFX's website about whether Titler Pro 7 bought alone will get this update (but you'd think so) but assume that the update advice would come via email and/or the NB App Manager.
