What are the top new features you'd like to see in Vegas?

marc-s wrote on 10/11/2017, 11:07 AM

Now that I've taken the plunge into Vegas 15 I feel emboldened to make new feature requests :).

Three things I'd love to see are:

1. Multiple tabbed timelines like in Premiere. This is a really efficient way to work with certain types of projects.

2. GPU acceleration for editing. I'm currently using the Proxy workflow but other programs like Edius and Premiere can play back native 4k footage more efficiently so I know it can be done. Nothing like a slow preview experience to hamper creativity.

3. Better color correction tools with power windows. Premiere has really upped their game in this area and Resolve well... enough said.

So what features are on the top of your list?

I’d like to have Vegas control two gloved mechanical hands, one on the left and one on the right side of my head. The one on the left would slap me up side my head to indicate that AutoRipple should be on for this next action. The one on the right would slap me up side my head to indicate that AutoRipple should be off for this next action. I’ve wasted more time hitting Control Z to fix incorrect AutoRipple states than just about any other function except poor preview performance.

Seriously, the things you mentioned are admirable goals and likely a tall order for the dev team.

To have a button to "battle Short" all Windows permissions which I never use and have never used and never will.

all the above +

- motion tracking

- audio sync

- editing 360deg videos

(especially that all of those features are available in their other products)

Motion tracking

Audio syncing (i.e. pluraleyes)

More control over colors (because I can't see when a track is muted)

1. I'd like to see a simplified interface for general color correction. Let me do basic exposure, curves and tweaking of individual colors in a single panel rather than through the interactions of multiple tabbed Fx tools, some of which seem to be antiquated in their functionality. Look at approaches such as Lightroom, Speedgrade, Filmconvert, Resolve to see how other software does his. It's fine to keep all the Fx functionality for people who prefer these legacy approaches but I find it overly slow and cumbersome.

2. Let us paste individual Fx attributes from clip to clip. Right now we can choose crop or visual edits but have to paste all visual edits. Give me checkboxes to say just do levels, curves, etc. instead of all or nothing.

3. Allow the pasting of attributes on a media clip level, not just event.

4. Eyedropper tool- I use the waveform, vectorscope, etc., but at times really want to know how one particular part of the image is changing when I use certain effects (to nail neutral colors, etc.) An eyedropper tool would be helpful. See how Photoshop lets you pin multiple droppers so you can see RGB/LAB values for them change in response to edits.

5. Media favoriting/pre-trimming- I would like a feature like FinalCut where I can make selections out of clips and assign keywords to them, rather than dealing with long clips as a whole. For documentary work this would speed things considerably compared to editing on the timeline or in nested projects. (if this functionality exists, let me know!)

6. Lens distortion correction- perhaps partner with someone with a good database of lens/camera combos like PTLens

7. Rolling shutter correction- I've seen examples of fixes of this in Premier that look quite good. Does Vegas have a similar feature

Overall though I have to say that 15 is a huge upgrade from 12 and I'm glad I stuck with it. Keep up the great development work and I hope this program becomes more popular as there is so much it can do.

So many great ideas, many of which I'd like to see.

Able to have different colour markers

It may not seem all that important, but that would be a great addition - I use lots of markers for different purposes. Color coding would help no end in differentiating them.

Instead of switching on and off the AutoRipple function, just leave it off and hit the f key immediately after an action that needs rippling.

Thanks 3POINT, I'll see if I can remember that today.

A Pluraleyes type sound sync. I often use a TAscam D60 in the filed and would probably use this feature almost every video. Have an older pluraleyes that I use to sync but it is not seamless.

definitely that one! ...with the possibility to hide/show each type/color separately

Former user wrote on 10/12/2017, 6:07 PM

Different coloured markers and ability to reset their numbers 1 to end.

Also a way of having FX favourites list instead of always searching through all of them.

A way of adding colour to higlight selections in the render dialog, or, a favourites selection of render options. The yellow favourite is ok but could be expanded on, maybe different colours.

karma17 wrote on 10/12/2017, 6:54 PM

1. Of course, fix all bugs and stability.

2. But most of all, I would like to see the Color Corrector plug-in changed in a way that matches Resolve's workflow. Lift, gamma, gain, contrast, saturation, offset, primary wheels and log control all in one spot or basic interface. Would like to quiet those who say you can't properly color correct in anything except Resolve.

3. It would be nice to have an audio sync capability like Plural Eyes, which I have to do in Plural Eyes right now.

4. Don't change too much! Just make better what you have. I'd like to see the core functionality improved before getting bells and whistles added. There's no point adding new features if existing features aren't improved and updated to keep up with the times.

I love the basic interface and how easy it is to do things. I don't expect Vegas to be a professional compositing program. I just want to professionally edit audio and video, and do color correction.

I'd like the bugs to be fixed, especially the one where the program locks up if the master volume slider is moved while its window is docked. But before anything I want the activation issue resolved so that Vegas works without constant need to connect to the internet. For myself, basically all else is moot.

I didn't realize it needs constant connection, but anyway, please explain why this is so important.

Maybe unusual for most of you professionals, but I would like some of the functions of Magix Fastcut or Magix Video Pro X automated audio beat recognition. Have not found out how anything similar that would work in Vegas.

LOG correction with LOG tools, edit, create LUTs. HDR tools, correction, support. HEVC and HLG. Multiple simultaneous output render formats ('render queue') like in CaptureOne Pro. A commitment for ongoing 3rd Party plugin support beyond a a version release. Accelerated timeline playback, better efficient coding and CPU/GPU support. Native Vegas plugins that work effectively (stabilize, titler, tracking). and maybe fix some bugs or make some new ones to find
