What does Vegas recommend when using the driver update tool?

(Intel 3rd gen i5@4.1GHz, 32GB RAM, SSD, 1080Ti GPU, Windows 10) Not now used with Vegas.

It's a safe one. The newer ones should also have the inverted channel bug fixed but not sure if there are other issues.

I upgraded from 22.5.1 to 23.3.2 about a month ago with vp20 and older and it's been solid. Have not tried the update to v23.4.3 yet. I don't use 3rd party plugins but that can be another sticking point.

Yelandkeil wrote on 4/29/2023, 1:19 PM

Don't know which card you have and what project you do.

I use 23.4.1, compared to 22.5.1, it's some little more performance in my feeling.
One issue by me is that when I cut in 8-bit full mode the new driver pushes my second HDR-monitor in a dimmed color space. I must adjust it back in Windows11.

All driver versions have this phenomenon in VEGAS after 22.5.1.
But in HDR-color grading it's OK.

Just updated all my desktop machines to 23.4.3 and it looks pretty good on all the benches. Continuing a multicam project and so far so good with that. Only use a single 32-inch 4k monitor shared via a kvm switch and that works well too.

Thank's for all the experience you have with the drivers, I work with the older card's RX570 and the RX580 so I think I stay wit 22.5.1 this driver still is most stable and I am only editting not games, newer is not alway's better.

While the latest driver works, there are issues with NBFX TP7 not loading the library, and Boris BCC Title Studio having issues. Forget about Ignite Pro not working either.

I reported in the Boris forum the TS issues, also to NBFX. Ignite Pro is dead along with FXHome. But I still like using some of it.

So, still on 22.5.1

Hi! I'm in bad trouble here. Clients are waiting and I can't get my Titler plugins to work. NB Titler crashes when touching Library and Boris TS only shows vaguely. I see from above it might be an issue with the driver. I use AMD Radeon VII and recently updated the driver to 23.8.1 and the problem presists. Before that I had 22. something and it didn't workj either. Now I see you recommend 22.5.1. How do I go about to roll back to that? Where do I find it to download?

Reyfox wrote on 8/28/2023, 1:40 PM

Easy google search, so here you go. AMD Driver

I've stayed with it because Ignite, NBFX TP7 and Boris TS work fine with it. Boris and TP7 work with later drivers, but for me, there has to be a specific reason for me to upgrade the driver if it is already working.

Make sure you use something like DDU to uninstall the current driver before installing 22.5.1. Otherwise you still can have issues because the drive has not been completely removed.

Yes the 22.5.1 is still the best driver for Vegas, if you don't play games it is not necessary to upgrade the driver on your machine it still works great with Windows 10 and 11. I don't have any problems with VP20 and now VP21.

@Martin L, you do not need the AMD Adrenalin softwire unless you are a gamer. I have found that every release past 23.5.2 has had an issue on my PC where the masking outline in the preview window is not visible. Not sure of any other issues but I have been working on a project masking many videos. I have the RX 7900 XTX card.

Here is my current driver, not sure how is updated. May have been when installing 23.7.1. After installing 23.7.1 I saw the masking issue. I deleted it and reinstalled 23.5.2 and deleted that. My PC is still working just fine without and change in performance..

@Martin L which AMD card do you have? 22.5.1 might not work with it. It depends on when your card was released. It should work with RX 6000 series and earlier. But it won't work with the current RX7000 series cards.

I have AMD Radeon VII, would that work? If not, what driver is the best for it?

Edit: It should be compatible. See screenshot. I'll give it a go.

I can't find AMD Radeon VII in those lists. Just PRO VII which I presume is not the same as my VII. Or is it?

I don't play games. Well occasionally MS Flight Simulator, but that is seldom and not important to me.

@Martin L The Radeon VII is listed under 2nd Generation Vega but the last PRO series driver listed for it is 22Q4 which did not work well on mine... gave me some screen flashing. The current driver 23.8.1 driver was also no good for me... cause reversal of reds and blues in Vegas renders. The one I'm using is 23.7.2 available here:

@Reyfox 22.5.1 is pretty old. I'm on 23.7.2 on all my Amd-gpu machines except a Nuc whose discontinued VegaM igpu is stuck with 11.8.2... and that had to be patched to force the installation.

Hi again! I deleted the latest driver and installed the 22.5.1 driver. This resulted in Title Studio text now being clearly visible when applied to an empty event in Vegas 21. Great!

For TS directly applied to a video clip the problem remains, the video is black. However, the text/graphic now shows clearly. But then I ran into a short text passage on the TS manual. It talks about Native Host Compositing and the Compositing controls and says "This eliminates the need to duplicate your source clip in the timeline". Well, I never duplicated anything before, but now I did. And voila! now the video shines through. So my conclusion is that my TS from 2018 doesn't have that Compositing controls feature, because it's simply not there. That seems to be a new feature that came later and the mabual is for newer versions. It just briefly mentions what the new version does better than the old. So with my version I need to duplicate the clip and put it on a track beneath.

My BCC with TS is too old for to be eligable for an upgrade so an option is to buy a new license for $200 or more. I can't affort that right now so I'll stick with my present version, now that it works. At least it seems to work.

Anyways, thanks a lot all you who helped me with this. The solutions was apparantly to roll back the driver.

Feel there is hope and I'm slowly crawling out of the mud.

I will perhaps give NewBlue Titler another go also now with this old driver. I'll let you know if it works.

Thank you for your report! And that everything has gotten a lot better. All drivers after 22.5.1 giving problems hope that AMD will do something about it in the future.

@Martin L Glad the driver rollback solved one of your problems. As for the compositing problem, I never apply the TS FX to a media event. I always apply it to an empty event above the media event. I can then have the title appear at any time in the media event by shortening the empty event. I can also fade the title in and out using the standard event fade on the empty event, instead of having to mess around with keyframes in the TS UI.

Doing it this way, you don't have to duplicate your media event.
Onwards and upwards with the learning curve.

@Martin L, I didn't know (or read) that you had an old version of Boris TS. I have right now Continuum Complete 2023.5, and for the title to be seen in Vegas preview, Composite>Apply Mode has to be Normal. Sometimes, I'll add TS to a Media Generator Solid Color, Black, and change the value of everything to "0", over the video. And NBFX TP works fine. Just that you can not play back within the NB window. You can scrub through the video though with the the title on it.

I've been itching to try a later graphics driver to see what happens to TS and TP.... but not today.

@Howard-Vigorita, yes, that driver is old. But everything works with it that I have. Even games and all the plugins that I have. Boris Title Studio has been problematic, and so has NBFX Titler Pro 7. Ignite Pro 5 (thanks Artlist for killing it) with new drivers. But I'll give 23.7.2 a shot to see how things go.
