I wouldn't mind that being an option either, IF it could be done with the most minimal effort for the dev team... and while they are at it, bring by VP17's folder structure for Video FX and Transitions tab, but I guess that's not going to happen.... 😫
+1. Be nice if the icons were stored in a folder somewhere. Like the ones for user scripts. Which stand out nicely now that the Vegas icons got so drab.
+1,000,000 The icons in VP18 were great and there was no need to change them. Icons in VP19 timeline events have no black borders = no contrast = unreadable.
Thanks, everyone for your feedback! I was thinking it's something strange with me, but indeed – new icons are very hard to read and because they are monochrome they look very similar.
As andyrpsmith mentioned it feel like this change was for change's sake.
But, is there a way to manually change all-new icons somehow? @VEGASDerek
I assure you we do not have time to make change for "change's sake". For every one of you who dislikes the change, we can find another complaining because VEGAS Pro looks "old fashioned" or "outdated" or "hard to read". So we tried to address those concerns.
We'll take all comments into consideration and weigh them against one another. If a change feels warranted, we'll make it. But not simply for change's sake. We have far too much to do to waste time working like that.
@gary-rebholz what turned me off from Vegas many years ago was it's "ugly" confused and complex look. I never bothered to try it. Finally VP14 Edit from HB got me into editing with Vegas in spite of it's ugliness to me. Yes, it's aesthetics, and don't judge a book by it's cover, but how something looks does matter.
BUT... here is my gripe since updating to VP18 from VP17, 16, 15, and 14, the Video and Transitions FX tabs... Before you had them in their folders, now they are just alphabetized and not grouped according to their folder function. Yes, a standing complaint since 18, and I was hoping that in 19, could have an option, but no. I have to use another Window, Plugin Manager to do this. If you have Continuum Complete, Sapphire, a few NBFX, and Ignite Pro, you will see what I mean....chaos.
Apologies for the change's sake comment, I did not mean to offend anyone or imply that the team had nothing else to do. The V19 icons do to my eyes have some items in common with V14 especially the flat monotone items in the top menus, in V18 they are perfect in clarity and detail. BW Andy
Bending my ear I don't mind. It's important for us to hear these things. We updated that system specifically because we had so many complaints about the "Windows '95" folder tree view that you're talking about. For the most part the new design has been quite well received, so I think we're in a "can't please all the people..." situation.
But I hear your call for an option. That is something we can discuss. Thanks for your input.
I'm glad folks liked the icons in VP18. Being more of an audio guy, I definitely didn't care for the use of a microphone for a record button or the use of a non traditional track phase button but those changes happened before VP18. VP19 at least got back to a more traditional/recognizable record button be it the blandest/simplest record button I ever seen in a modern day app. Track phase button continues to follow it's non traditional Vegas only presidence, now just harder to see.
Can't believe folks want to be able to change icons on their own. What do you think this is?......Reaper? where you can totally customize and create your own theme and swap out PNG files when things don't meet your preferences. 😄
BTW, since I'm adding my audio input on icons. Magix when your set the Vegas theme color to "Medium" and select a track while track automation mode is enabled, your track MUTE button background color is the exact same color as the selected track fader background color. So now your mute button looks like a tiny dot on the screen.

What I suggest for your team before release is to make an A\B test. YouTubers do it with thumbnails, marketers do it in ads, and so on.
What I can predict is that the UI of V19 will lose, because I asked 20 people, and 20 of them voted for V18 UI.
If you are so strict about this update – please give us, users an option to choose from.
This is called UI customization and it's been used in most programs since Winamp skins in Win95.
For me it is not just about icons. I do not mind if they changed.
However, many icons in VP19 that are used as buttons or indicators are really hard to read. This is the issue for me.
Examples:
- I was using filter icon/button on events to understand if filters applied there or not. I cannot see it now as the blue dot is too small and 'dissolving' with event's content;
- For some buttons in 'pressed' state it is impossible/very hard to see what on icons at all (a bit better now as Light theme can be used again after the latest update). Not a big problem for me as I use hotkeys mostly. However, this is really not a right to implement UI.

That's what I'm talking about. These new icons are impossible to distinguish.
The whole UI seems like an optical illusion to me :)
I don't expect a pretty UI from this team, but I have struggled since day one to identify VP19's save icon. I still have to think every time I click to save. I would rather spend my limited working bandwidth elsewhere.
To avoid having to manoeuvre the mouse to locate and click on the Save icon, I've long used the convenient and quicker Ctrl+S keyboard shortcut to save.
