I wrote this song after my dog Lilly passed. I kept trying to edit video of her to it but it was too sad so instead I repurposed some video I had shot for another project. Nothing outstanding as far as editing, but the video is primarily to showcase my song. It is a dirge so won't be to everyone's liking. enjoy!

And we keep busy,

yesterday I filmed 2 new testimonials and the b-roll.
But the company also told me that last previous recordings and edit was approved and released ;-)
With 2 more ballet shows , some drone shots and some other stuff on the film agenda this month it remains an interesting month

Bald Eagle feeding on a carp (I think). I feel lucky to find a feeding eagle close enough to capture that action full frame.

Technical Stuff: Canon R5 / 600mm F/4L IS USM + 2xTC (1200mm). 4K 120p capture slowed down to 30p. Edited in Vegas Pro 20.

Absolutely no fancy editing here (not even a transition 😀). I was just so happy to get this short clip.

Still experimenting with a slider in conjunction with panning. Starting to get the hang of subtle manipulation of background perspective with the foreground subject at a relatively fixed position. Shot yesterday afternoon after early morning rain with the outside lighting still overcast. Canon xf605 set to: full-range, rec709, 59.94fps, 161mbps, 10-bit 4:2:0 hevc. Edited and graded on my laptop w/o proxies at 29.97fps in 8-bit full-range project. Then restored original frame-rate and set project to 32-bit (video gama) for 10-bit hevc full-range render and YouTube upload. Will try this again after May flowers are up, probably on a sunny day with clog3.

Btw, had allot of trouble with the transitions till I set the Nvidia Control Panel OpenGL to: Prefer Compatible (driver v528.49 ). Intel Iris driver v101.4233 did the hevc decoding.

It's a small edelkrone. They also make one with a larger motor as well as another much longer but I wanted one I could carry in my camera bag. This one's pretty quiet. I was able to use the camera audio which picked up barking dogs and chirping birds and mixed it into the music track.

NOVAdash wrote on 5/13/2023, 10:32 PM

The above is a dashcam compilation of drivers in my area that make not so great decisions.

Just over 10 minutes, but took me two months to create, but two years to collect the footage. Since upgrading from Movie Studio I learned how to Motion Track (outside of Bezier) and how it doesn't work very well, how to mask (I think this is called rotoscoping), how to nest projects (amazing concept), and by pure attention to detail how to right click and "Select Everything Right of Cursor" which would have saved years of my life in previous videos. Maybe not that much but close.

Former user wrote on 5/14/2023, 12:58 AM

@NOVAdash I can tell you put a lot of work into the tracking and masking. Some of it very acceptable, other tracks too much random movement not to notice.

As a matter of interest are you sharpening or uprezing when you zoom in or does your dashcam have very high sharpening to start with? It doesn't look so good when you do the zoom in.

I tried some noise reduction(NeatV5) but looks soft and smeared

NOVAdash wrote on 5/14/2023, 7:46 AM

@Todd-A0 No I'm not adding any sharpening. Only effect like that is I bumped the contrast slightly (0.075). The pedestrian clip I went aggressive on to make it easier to see. I did play with denoise and some other stuff to try to clean up the pixelization but due to the smearing you mention, I discarded that.

My one big regret is not working more with video stabilization for each clip. I played with it for hours and it would always produce terrible, jerky, warpy results but I finally figured out which level and what settings to use. I was 95% done at this point. For any who are curious, use Professional setting, Accurate, and Transition only. Once analyzed, max out the smoothness.

Agree about the tracking not being perfect. Those are cases where I resorted to manual keyframing because the motion tracking just wasn't playing nice. I definitely could have done better; particularly in two clips as I re-watch for the 100th time. The tracking likely would have played nicer if I'd stabilized the video first.

I appreciate the constructive criticism. Thanks for watching!

Just curious ... why the need to pixelate/etc the registration plates in the first place? And why so many versions of blocking those plates?

Maybe there's some local law in your jurisdiction that requires you to do obscure registration plates - but if so, please be consistent with the plate blocking approach (IMO pixelation works better but it could be much finer pixelation).

Where I live, privacy laws do not apply to photography in public areas (audio recordings are much stricter though); however, local media will pixelate some images like rego plates such as it they relate to cases before the courts or identifying a vehicle involved in a fatal crash.

My overall opinion, I thought that our local drivers were the worst in the world .... but ...

If you are using a commercial dashcam camera (probably HD rather than 4K - but I could be wrong - that it's been uploaded to YT in 4K doesn't mean that the original footage is 4K), you've probably eked out the best from such a camera.

Google -

"Google Street View blurs license plates so it seems wise to follow suit. It’s better to be safe than sorry and it takes barely any time at all to blur a number plate using photo editors online. By pixelating, blurring or covering the number plate of your car before posting a picture online, you’re eliminating any sort of chance of a person being able to snoop.

Whilst it may seem unlikely that someone will take advantage of your number plate to attain information, it is possible, so it’s best to cover your back, just in case. The “it won’t happen to me” mentality will do you no favours as it could very well happen!"

@Dexcon Hi, I can't say exactly why I hide mine in my vids, I guess there's a difference to it being on the rd in public view compared to it being on the internet in the national/international view, maybe I think people will find my address or copy my number plate, use it then I'm the one that gets blamed for speeding etc.. identity theft. If people like the media hide no' plates they're more likely just covering their backs & keeping 'things' anonymous

I personalize mine instead of pixelation 😁

NOVAdash wrote on 5/14/2023, 9:36 AM

@Former user Those look great! I have issue with the perspective tracking interface in that I can't zoom into the video to accurately fine tune the corner points, and didn't find a way to hand-jam the coordinates, so I only used it a few times. Also something I forgot to mention earlier, I suspect the fish-eye perspective of the dash cam mucked up the algo on the edges of video.

@Dexcon "So many versions"? Haha. I only used two, to my knowledge (at least in this episode). The vanity plate (with poop emoji) is my way of marking the "bad" driver. This is supposed to be helpful in identifying the car to keep your eye on. Maybe next iterations will lay this out in the beginning to make it clear. It is a Nextbase 622GW 4k dash cam but it's far from GoPro quality 4K, despite being $399 MSRP. I block the offender plates because I don't want to make it seem like I'm targeting anyone. It's a courtesy more than anything. The bystanders are pixelated because it's fairly easy to do (random movements are less noticeable), and why not. Thanks for watching!
