The cause of one Vegas Pro 18 crashes

chris-minchin wrote on 8/23/2020, 6:34 PM

Hi every one, I have recently discovered why VP18 sometimes crashes when using the Event Pan Crop tool.

This of course may not happen to all users, due to the difference in their machine or how they have it configured, but I am sure it will be affecting quite a few users.

I have up-loaded a short video to my you-tube channel to demonstrate the problem and how to apply a fix until Magix sorts this bug in the update.

Please let me know if the same problem occurs to you on your setup.

I have found another bug, that makes VP18 crash when dropping a checkerboard effect onto the timeline, either too soon after opening VP18 or when dropping it onto the timeline without first inserting a video track.

This last bug I have no solution for at the moment and may never have, but hopefully Magix will correct these errors soon in their next update.

@chris-minchin - Reproed using 4k video PLUS other crashes too. On my MONSTA! I was intrigued by Chris's discovery using Pan/Crop, the same holds for FXing:

Great catch Chris!!

I was looking at this page while looking through internal menu. even scrolling that menu can cause vp18 to crash

Grazie wrote on 8/24/2020, 1:12 AM

@Former user - Was this also with that “Collapse Loop Region Selection When No Time Selection Is Present” catch by Chris?

Former user wrote on 8/24/2020, 1:26 AM

It's unrelated to this topic, It's a scrolling internal preferences bug. do it too fast and it locks up temporary or crashes vegas. Your picture shows through at end due to vegas crashing, revealing the forum underneath

@Former user - Eh? My picture? I don’t understand.

I tested this - I get the same error - but the field "Collapse loop region when no time selection is present" was not checked by default.
Still - thanks for the great work!

This was originally diagnosed as a driver issue but apparently not if it's showing up on systems with amd and nvidia boards... https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/so-many-crashes-in-vegas-pro-18--123259/#ca768206
