VEGAS Pro 15 Update 2 (build 261) - General Discussion

@SphinxRa40 Where specifically are you downloading the update when you are seeing the Sony logo?

RogerS wrote on 12/4/2017, 12:17 PM

This is strange- when I installed 261 it told me I had already activated too many licenses and had to deactivate one. The choice it gave was my current computer or my second one. I deactivated my second one and then logged into magix.com where I noticed that now my new computer was activated twice! It seems to have activated me for build 216 and then 261 on the same machine as separate computers.

So if this happens to you, "deactivate" your current computer as while it doesn't say the program build it just means deactivating the previous build. Odd behavior.

I downloaded and installed it on the same day when it was announced at this link:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-15-update-2-build-261--109529/

But I suspect it has to do something with the C++ 2013 red. as my VP15 still crashes, see:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vp15-crashes-in-splash-screen-net-runtime--109468/

I have a sort of a conversation with you about it thru support mail, repaired all C++ red. then reinstalled VP15 then I didn't saw the logo...So moral VP15 icon is still on my desktop for the show, VP14 runs great tho...

A similar double activation happened recently to me but this time with the latest MS14 Plat update. I wondered if a major Windows update had caused it. But it only appears a few of us are seeing this problem.

RogerS wrote on 12/4/2017, 9:53 PM

That might be possible. I did install 216, updated Windows 10 and then installed 261 and it counted the same computer as two different. The same didn't happen when I went from the initial version to 216 on a Windows 7 machine.

Funny you must be referring to the Resolve beta where crashes are expected. I just bought Resolve and have edited a few projects already. Must say it's more stable for me than Vegas and despite a few shortcomings an incredible program. Wish Vegas could put 1/4 the effort Resolve does into improving their program.

Nick, here's another example: https://www.dropbox.com/s/fv8ui2fhiljbn9z/Mask2.veg?dl=0

Look how the result in V11 differs from V15:

@altarvic I get the "buggy" VP11 behaviour in VP12, 14 and 15 but not in VP13.

@marcinzm Does this summarize the 2 issues (for this post)?

  • Shortcut for Polish character "ż" (Right ALT + X) closes the (Legacy) Text generator
  • Most Polish fonts cannot be used in Titles & Text and (Legacy) Text

What about my second problem with GoPro Hero 6 Black audio noise bug?

Have you already added to the bug list to fix it?

All videos recorded by Go Pro Hero 6 Black added into timeline have bad audio. Instead of right audio track there is a noise along the whole audio track. When I play such video on Media Player Classic player audio track playback is fine.
Please add this bug to the priority level list and confirm me it ok?

Thank you.

I just installed the latest version and it did fix one of the secondary preview monitor issues I was having (Did not work in 15 but worked in 13). I still have an issue though were almost everything I edit on the timeline (when having the secondary preview activated) causes both monitors to flash to black for a moment which is incredibly annoying. This appeared in 13 as well when I upgraded to Windows 10. I'm using a Radeon RX480.

@marcinzm I added that bug to that unofficial list on 1st November after this post. Please let us know if you think yours is a different issue.

Hi @redpaw,

Do you mind sending me your ticket number via personal message? I can have a look at that.

Either way, I think within the scope of a complex project such as this, the priorities can change and should change according to the ever changing circumstances. Just have a look at Gary's comment history. He gives great insight how and why some decisions are being made.

Is it normal that Vegas doesn't use GPU at all for proxy file rendering? It's very slow, I think if it used the GPU would be waay faster.

marcinzm wrote on 12/6/2017, 8:11 AM

@marcinzm I added that bug to that unofficial list on 1st November after this post. Please let us know if you think yours is a different issue.

1) I don`t know why it was on unofficial list and it wasn't fixed. I uploaded you a video sample to check it out by yourself. Please refresh the issue because this bug still exists

2) Please add to the VP15 bug list regarding to all text editors announced bug, another weird behaviour I have not mentioned before, but it is annoying. I mean when I type a text in any VP15 text editor and then change the selected text to the new font and then I will notice that I missed some letter in the already typed text, I enter this missing letter and then text editor doesn`t remember the previously chosen font and I have to remember the name of the font, select all text again and change the font again. It is not normal behaviour. This problem exists in all text editors since Vegas Pro 9. When I select the font name from font list, it should lock the font, and all type letters should by typed in the font which is selected as last. I hope you know what I emmean.

This problem doesn`t exist in New Blue Titler Pro 5 external text editor.

Thank you very much, if you fix these bugs, all Polish and not Polish people will really apprieciate and will be very happy.

@marcinzm I don't work for Magix. I am a volunteer moderator. This is a user forum and we don't know that the developers even look at that unofficial list, because they keep their own official list, which they compile mostly from user reports. So make sure you report all your issues by sending a support request if you haven't done already. In my experience that is the best way to get bugs into the developers' backlog for fixing. Give as much detailed information about the issue as you can, including a link to your demonstration video(s).

Redpaw, So are you having the same black screen flashing issues when using secondary preview monitor? Would be nice to know I'm not the only one. I never submitted a ticket because in the past I usually just get a canned response by someone who does not seem to actually use the program asking me to reinstall or whatever.

I passed from V15 build 177(that doesn´t use my GPU more that 2% when use...) to 261 v2 with very problems and with slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww start every project, doesn´t use my GPU 95% most of the time, when use 2% when use... and sometimes 4X to 9X%(peaks...when use.) I only saw one time use CPU and GPU arround 8Xs and 9X%)
I passed to 261 v1(most fast start that others, but same shit...in the "render as" if gpu appears, NVidia NVENC no... the good is, only need 3 seconds to open my project!(but what is good ends here...., with V2 2mins~ i´m not kidding! TWO ******* min...).
VP14 is the way to go...

I'm having this problem with the latest build, and it has caused my productivity to grind to a halt. I cannot edit a single project without frequent crashing, and disabling so4 and GPU do nothing to help, though disabling the GPU did seem to improve performance a bit, and I was able to at least begin editing, it wasn't long before I'd managed to crash it again. I recorded a video of it crashing. This is just one example of how you can make it crash. There is no one cause, pretty much anything you do can make it begin to lag and eventually hang when you are working with 4K video or TIF image sequences (usually 720p or 1080p for those sequences, 60fps).

I'm trying to edit a video I made for Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead. There are 5 video tracks on the timeline. All 4K, one GoPro 4, 3 GH4s and one GH5 all using the 8 bit 100mbps 4K H.264 wrapped in MP4 codec. In this particular instance, I'm trying to get my main angle's next clips synchronized with the rest of the project. As soon as I get my sync right, it usually crashes about at that point if I try to do anything else at all. However, as I said, this is only one of many ways I have been able to make Vegas 15 crash since the latest update was released. I couldn't get it to boot at all when I first installed it, and since it has been a bug-fest. It usually hangs when trying to pause a playing clip, sometimes when trying to play a paused clip, or when making any adjustments to effects or trying to enable/disable effects. In the video example, I had disabled every effect on the timeline and main output before recording.

I get that 5 4K angles at once is processor intensive, but I'd rather have it lag than crash all together. I was able to successfully edit other clips from this same project before the update (see link below), with minimal crashing and pretty good performance (I had to edit the old fashioned way from the timeline, I could not get multicamera mode to play back smoothly enough to cut it that way, it would play each angle smoothly but lag badly after each cut/transition). Unfortunately, I cannot find where to download previous updates to try a roll back, can anyone help there? I really need to get this project out soon.

Edit: Looks like OBS couldn't keep up with capturing while I was doing the sync, the video freezes a lot, but the crash is captured at about 3:30 in the video.

Thanks for sharing.... seems the VP goes trouble reading all the 4K-compressed format and finally gone crash...

(Have you tried setting DRAM to 0?)

The other way, not sure if this works - but you can try it, is create a video proxy for the all 4K footage (I know - creating the proxy is taking a long time to do):
