VEGAS Pro 15 Update 2 (build 261) - General Discussion

I have just prepared for Magix developers short video which you can see the problem with Polish letters, Polish fonts, font list count, typing Polish letters on Polish keyboard.

Please be so kind and fix these problems. As I previously mentioned these problems are serious and have been existing in Vegas software since Sony Vegas Pro 9 or even before.

Please take a look at my video. I hope it will clear the issue view for any not Polish Magix developer in Magix team

Regards
Marcin from Poland

I recently upgrade from Version 14 to 15 of Vegas Pro. This was done on the promotion of improved render times.

I now note that my render times seemed to have gone in the opposite direction. I think I have optimized my workstation for editing with Vegas Pro ( HP Z440 with a Zeon processor, 32 GB RAM and an AMD FirePro W5100 ).

Is there something I may have missed in my setup or something I can check? I am truly disappointed with my render times.

@hughdemand The improved render times are specifically with NVENC or QSV in the Magix AVC/AAC encoder. You need an Nvidia card (not AMD) for NVENC and your Xeon CPU may not support QSV, depending on the model.

Today I found my memory usage going up to the 32GB ceiling and having to cancel the render.

What format is on your timeline? If it's AVC or XAVC-S then try disabling so4compoundplug.

NickHope wrote on 12/1/2017, 8:59 PM

It looks like this update has done nothing to fix the freezes when using NVENC with the so4 dll enabled, guess I'll have to disable it again. Even when the renders were working, I was getting all kinds of errors like flickering frames, compositing flickering in and out, etc.

@fr0sty What format of footage is on your timeline? How was it created?

@Dave Disable so4compoundplug and please let us know if it fixes the problem.

Also, did you use a previous version of VP15 and did it work better in this respect (i.e. not crash with your G85 UHD footage)?

NickHope wrote on 12/1/2017, 10:21 PM

@marcinzm Does this summarize the 2 issues (for this post)?

  • Shortcut for Polish character "ż" (Right ALT + X) closes the (Legacy) Text generator
  • Most Polish fonts cannot be used in Titles & Text and (Legacy) Text

@Dave

That's what I was after. Nick was faster ;)

It summerize 3 issues - you have to add one more issue that I put on the video.

Fonts list count on Titles & Text and (Legacy) Text are different. Some fonts are available in one font list in one text editor and in the another font list in another text editor are missing.

"What format of footage is on your timeline? How was it created?"

This footage was actually a series of 720p TIF image sequences and jpeg images, which doesn't make sense that disabling MTS/AVC decoding with that plugin would do anything to help it, but it did. When it is enabled, no matter which format I'm using the encoder is likely to hang on a frame roughly 20% into the encode. It was like this before the update as well.

Last changed by fr0sty on 12/2/2017, 5:58 AM, changed a total of 1 times.

This illustrates what I'm talking about. This is a test video for a building I am video projection mapping for an architectural firm's 30th anniversary. I have a mask cropping the video so it does not extend beyond the building (just a png image that is black everywhere except for the building and clear where the building is, and another image of the building on the track above it with the compositing type set to overlay in order to simulate the effect of the image being projected onto the building), but as you can see some of the time if flickers through anyway.

I was able to at least get the render to stop freezing (NVENC) by disabling the mts/AVC so4 dll.

something similar happens to me too...

disabling so4 didnt help.. switching gpu altogether does help.

but also i got rid of that flickering when changing resolution of one of the graphics (the "death of a salesman" title) from 2120x1597 to 1300x979...

annoying...

That is indeed strange, and worthy of submitting a support request for (if you didn't already).

And why I haven't upgraded past Vegas 13 - and unless it has to be a very quick turnaround, I've gone back to Premiere Pro CS6 for my serious work - I wish it were otherwise.... I'll lurk off and on but stability - at the expense of ease of use - is more important to delivering to my clients on time...

These reports certainly don't inspire confidence.

I would like to test the new build for myself, but I can't because they have not reset the trial period. Something for Magix to think about, because they are effectively blocking sales.

Mask compositing mode was broken in build 261.

I get this behaviour with GPU acceleration both on or off:

Then I recreated your project as best I could and I get similar behaviour in VP10, 12 and 14.

Can you share a project from an earlier version than 15?

altarvic wrote on 12/3/2017, 11:10 AM

The sample project was created in V11 (the link above).

I created a letterbox as an example. In V15 it does not work as it should.

NickHope wrote on 12/3/2017, 7:55 PM

Sorry, I mistakenly thought it was a VP15 project.

Your project plays for me like in my screengrabbed video in all of VP12-15. No change in any of them. It doesn't look like your first screen shot in any version.

Has anyone been having problems with the "Undo" in MAGIX Vegas Pro 15, (excuse the reference to "SONY", set. sheesh!) There's definately a bug somewhere in there. Most of the time the undo works, but there's been a few times when it doesn't. Anyone?

LongIslander wrote on 12/3/2017, 11:40 PM

I can fix the crash while importing 500 assorted videos/pictures if i import small amounts at a time (50 at a time) . Regardless when importing 1 large folder to the timeline vegas seems to have some memory issue that causes a crash.

LongIslander wrote on 12/4/2017, 3:13 AM

Update! Finally figured out my display driver crashes. Apparently Vegas Pro doesn't play nice when you have the system page file turned OFF. It needs to be on. Havent had 1 crash since!

altarvic wrote on 12/4/2017, 9:19 AM

Nick, here's another example: https://www.dropbox.com/s/fv8ui2fhiljbn9z/Mask2.veg?dl=0

Look how the result in V11 differs from V15:

Marco. wrote on 12/4/2017, 9:50 AM

Yes, in this sample project in VP15 b.261 it passes transparent pixels as transparent, instead of calculating to zero and render as black.

You could argue which way is right and which is wrong. But it seems this only happens when using TrackMotion. Same process made with Pan/Crop and VP15 acts just like former Vegas versions and same is for the use of the Event opacity slider. So I also think this is a VP15 bug which affects TrackMotion plus compositing.
