VEGAS Pro 15 Update 5 (build 361) - General Discussion

Cliff, the frame-dropping on my machine is minor (this is 4K XAVC-S), but it's the behaviour that's alarming; I go so far to also exclude CPU load as a culprit, I believe this is a programming issue [buffering]. Sure, edit friendly codecs will alleviate 'the problem' somewhat, but the fact that my system can playback a continuous 4K clip without any problems whatsoever (even with some FX applied), if it's long enough, indicates other issues

my current Win10/64 system (latest drivers, water cooled) :

Intel Coffee Lake i5 Hexacore (unlocked, but not overclocked) 4.0 GHz on Z370 chipset board,

32GB (4x8GB Corsair Dual Channel DDR4-2133) XMP-3000 RAM,

Intel 600series 512GB M.2 SSD system drive running Win10/64 home automatic driver updates,

Crucial BX500 1TB EDIT 3D NAND SATA 2.5-inch SSD

2x 4TB 7200RPM NAS HGST data drive,

Intel HD630 iGPU - currently disabled in Bios,

nVidia GTX1060 6GB, always on latest [creator] drivers. nVidia HW acceleration enabled.

main screen 4K/50p 1ms scaled @175%, second screen 1920x1080/50p 1ms.

I gone back to 321 version amd the preview window is much smoother. It is totally unusable in 361 version.

@garygiles63 What format footage are you using and how was it created?

Hi , when inputting a velocity envelope in The preview stutters, even on draft ?

What file format or codec are your videos, and does it happen when you don’t use any velocity envelopes? Because, as previously mentioned here, certain video file formats seem to work better than others with VEGAS Pro.

Just to help the developers out somewhat I’ve created a straw poll for this build of VEGAS Pro 15. If polls aren’t allowed, then I’ll delete this comment. However, if they are, then here it is:

VEGAS Pro 15 - Update 5 (Build 361) Straw Poll

http://www.strawpoll.me/15829507

There seems to be a bit of an oversight by me in the poll of the first option that is as follows:

  • Yeah absolutely, it’s the most stable version since release of 15!

The part in boldΒ should’ve been added. My apologies. So now when voting in the poll you’ll know what I meant. Thanks to Nick Hope for pointing that out.

Note to Nick: I tried to tag you but for some reason it isn’t working. Feel free to fix it.

@MH7, I went to the poll, but have a question about one of this choice "Somewhat, I do still have some issues with it though".

The issues I have relate to things like transitions, using Titles & Text (animated) not being able to play back smoothly. But this is not a "bug" if I understand it correctly.

Well that might be hardware related I’m guessing. I just mean by that option that VEGAS Pro is working fine for you, well enough to not slow down or cause problems with your workflow, but you’re still having problems. In your case I’d probably go with the first option. I just wanted to make the options as simple as possible.

But I can see that a fourth option could’ve been added. Nevertheless, the poll’s basically supposed to help the developers see what percentage of people are having no problems with this latest build, what percentage it’s working well enough for, albeit some small problems, and what percentage of people are still having problems, even after updating to this latest build.

I hope I’ve explained it well enough. My apologies if it’s still not clear.

@MH7 If it's not too late, you might clarify the first option with "...since release of VEGAS Pro 15" so that people don't think you might mean since the first release of Vegas.

Just to help the developers out somewhat I’ve created a straw poll for this build

I'm not sure if this particular poll will help anything, not at least the developers. This poll is way too general, and issues with this build may be quite specific, and for some affected users only. I for myself stick to reporting the issues that I have and can reproduce.

Well I did put in the question - Does VEGAS Pro 15 Update 5 (Build 361) work well for you? - but I can clarify that in my post.

In "general", since this release, I am quite happy. My two major issues were lack of AMD graphics card support, and the way VP would use up system memory. Both these problems are fixed for "me". I might find other issues later on, but right now, I'm pretty happy!

I voted in the poll. Quite stable for what I do...... so far!

I'm using AVC 3840x2160. The video preview work ok in version 321 but unusable in version 361.

Any thoughts anyone?

Reyfox my machine was hand built and works flawless with other software as well as using fast drive systems. There seems to have always been a problem with h264 XAVC-s footage. Don't understand why it only effects vegas specially since it used to be run by my Sony tech friends out of wisconsin. Just would love to someday actually use this great product with XAVC-S. Fingers crossed.

@david-ruby I'm going to take a wild stab at this since I reviewed your hardware specs - I think the culprit causing the lackluster performance for transitions could be the GTX 670 you list in your hardware specs - I currently use a GTX-660ti (Currently waiting for an R9 370 4GB card to arrive this next week) - I get the same issues as you even with Cineform AVI's - I think transitions and motion title graphics are OpenCL accelerated in Vegas. In Premiere Pro, the transitions are CUDA accelerated so I'm guessing it's the same in Vegas for AMD based cards since nVidia support for OpenCL on older cards is mediocre at best.

That might be a really good stab Cliff. : ) Let us know how your new card works with Vegas.

I did the poll and answered "Stable" but not sure if it is the "Most stable since 15 release"

It's been fine since after disabling the Co4 DLL again

Any possible to repair TIMECODE SYNC in MXF file (XAVC-Long from SONY FS5). Now, timecode is apear, and timecode plugin shows correct timecode, but Lay Out Track Using Media Timecode doesn't work (events located side by side with no space).

Another format (AVC,Β ProRes)Β works correctly.

Open Media Generators under View + Window or just do Alt + 9 and then (under All or VEGAS) select Credit Roll and drag it to the TL

re-tested use of internal GPU (UHD630) in conjunction with my nVidia 1060/6, and this resulted only in more CPU load on the system, and lesser playback frame rates. Wasn't too keen on testing stability, so reverted back to disabling IGP in Bios just to be on the safe side. The funny part is, for standard playback, the most work my 1060 does is 'Copy'..

@markypoos1 Is that a VCE render? Is it any better if you disable so4compoundplug?

markypoos1 wrote on 6/5/2018, 10:26 AM

It only happens when you add a transition . A general fade all thats it. Totally freezes playback. Not sure what you mean a VCE render. Try it and add a fade, It breaks Vegas tried disabling GPU still the same . Disabling so4 helps a bit but now found issue. It happens when you turn VIEW TRANSFORM OFF. Its ok on ACES rgb
