@harry-worth The message is ... whatever you see in ai art...

Or a plea for adding a new feature to customize the splash screen with your own picture, or at least a selectable theme such as nature, cars, boats, animals whatever.

Or use AI for the next marketing campaign, it will be cheaper than hiring a professional dancer and crew.

Or me waiting too long for the next update!

Hopefully someone's able to help, I can't launch Sony Vegas Pro at all. Been having the issue for ~3 months not being able to open version 15 or 20, so I bit the bullet this morning and thought upgrading to version 21 would help (it did not). I have everything up to date and can't use this software. Has anyone found a fix for this?

Not sure why you didn't do the free trial if no other version works.

Where does the startup stop? Can you watch the message closely? One guess is there may be a VST or OFX blocking the startup. You could try moving those elsewhere temporarily and see if VEGAS can start.

In regards to the splash screen...we are not going to put in a mechanism so you can dynamically change it. We have other important things to work on other than this superficial change. However, we are considering a new splash screen to implement as part of the next major update after the new year and, as others have pointed out, you can turn off the splash screen if the current one bothers you.

Hello,
I have reported this and got an unsatisfying answer from the assistance by e-mail, which didn't solve my problem. In spite of multiple e-mails back to the assistance (through e-mail), I never got any other answer.

To make it short : Vegas Pro 21 does not launch on my new computer.
I get the splash screen, the interface starts appearing for a few seconds, then the program just shuts down completely.
I have Vegas Pro Post 21, I used this very same version on my former computer (Windows 10), and everything was fine. Now, on my new computer (with W11, i9 14900K, RTX 4090, drivers up-to-date, 192GB RAM), all programs work (Vegas Image, Vegas Effects, Acid Pro, etc.) but not Vegas Pro 21.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it several times, to make sure I had the latest version, but to no avail.

In the suite, VP21 is the one program I need the most. At the moment, I reinstalled my older Vegas Pro 19, which works perfectly fine, but I can't use the VST3 plugins I need with it.

Will someone from Magix help me? Why don't I get any help from technical assistance?
Here's the only (totally useless) answer I got:
"Hello
Thank you for your message.
An update has been released which resolves known issue and adds features to the application.  To download the update, close VEGAS then log onto your MAGIX.com account. Then, click MyProduct and click the Installation program link. After the installation is complete, you will have the latest build."

Nobody tried to contact me, ask me questions in order to find an explanation. I provided screenshots, videos showing what happens in the task manager when I launch the program, and I'm very surprised and disappointed about the poor quality of the assistance.

So... a little help from Magix would be more than appreciated. This suite is pretty costly, and I expect the assistance to be up to the price.

Thanks,

Xavier

@Xavier-VIBERT

My first question is, did you follow the instructions in the return email? Did you log into your Magix account and see if it's activated, or how many activations you have? At what point does the splash screen disappear? It shows you what's loading.

I am currently using VP21 Post 365. I've had to do some maintenance on my computer, uninstalled it, reinstalled it, updated it, and no issues.

Yes. And yes, of course it's activated. As I mentioned, I had been using this program for several months already on my former computer. It's in my products list on Magix website, along with my serial numbers and all.

Here's what happens : it starts loading the splash screen then the interface starts "drawing", but it crashes before it finishes loading.

And yes, I've tried several times uninstalling, reinstalling... but it does not work.
(and Vegas Pro 19 works fine, as well as all other programs from Vegas Post).

Well, I can always try again (for the 10th time), and hopefully that'll work. But the current version on my computer is indeed version 208, as you can see on the 2 videos I posted above.

@Xavier-VIBERT Looking at your hardware, you may suffer from thermal throttling. Your hardware is top notch, but I know from (recent) experience Vegas cannot handle CPU thermal throttling. The fact that your CPU is a high end Intel and you have a hard crash rather than a hang/freeze seems all to point to thermal throttling.

I would suggest you download the free and popular HWiNFO64 to monitor your CPU sensors. In HWiNFO64 you can look for thermal throttling under the section DTS (digital thermal sensor), just reset the counters, start Vegas (give focus to HWiNFO64 so you can observe if thermal throttling is indeed the issue.

Starting up Vegas spikes the CPU and if the CPU power limit allowed (BIOS setting) is not kept in check with your cooling ability, the CPU cores will reach their thermal maximum in mere seconds, leading to thermal throttling to protect them from harm. Unfortunately, Vegas is not very robust when that happens.

If your issue is indeed proven to be thermal throttling, then a fix is easy: you need to go into BIOS and impose proper CPU power limits (Beware of the value "AUTO", it may very well be more than 4000 W, this is not what you want). The exact value you need to set depends on the CPU type and CPU cooling setup capacity.

Thank you, I'm going to check that, but I highly doubt that's the reason. Why would I experience thermal throttling before the program even starts, when my CPU and GPU are both "cold".
Besides, I also use programs such as Blender and render heavy 3D graphics that actually do make the CPU and GPU go pretty hot without any issues.
And why can I run Vegas Pro 19 on the same computer without any problem, for hours?
Your thermal throttling hypothesis is worth checking, but I'm afraid it won't be the reason.
Thanks a lot, in any case. I'll check that as soon as I can.

@Xavier-VIBERT Have you, by any chance, ever saved your vp19 preferences and restored them to vp21? If so, that can mix critical AppData locations used by vp21 with those unique to vp19. Problematical are Vegas Window layouts whose paths are embedded in exported Vegas pref files. You can examine and correct paths in exported prefs with notepad. Or look in Vegas View, Window Layouts, Organize Layouts; the location listed there should be unique to vp21. Prefs are also saved in files in the Vegas temp folder listed at the bottom of Vegas general prefs; that folder should also be unique to vp21.

If fixing those things is not the cure, you might try doing the vp21 uninstall via the free version of Revo. Make sure it also removes the vp21 DLM as the 1st step. And after vp21 removal, run it's Advance Registry scan and removal. I usually skip the last Revo step to avoid removing shared components that might be used by vp19 on your machine. If you do the last step, just make sure you uncheck anything not clearly belonging to vp21.

No, I haven't saved my VP19 preferences, and I'm not sure how I would restore them to VP21, as I can't access VP21 menus, unfortunately. It crashes before the menus are accessible. I'll see if I can retrieve the VP19 ones and restore them to VP21 in one way or another. That might help. Thanks.

I tried various ways to uninstall. Through the Magix installer itself, through Windows, through another tool called Glary Utilities (also checks and cleans the registry). I tried uninstalling only Vegas Pro 21, then uninstalling all of Vegas Post programs, before reinstalling. I think I must have uninstalled and reinstalled at least a dozen times since November 😄

I'm posting here because I looked for "VP21 doesn't start" and that thread came up. I didn't pay attention to the version number.

bitman wrote on 1/10/2024, 10:23 AM

@Xavier-VIBERT I have seen programs like Cinebench surviving thermal throttling, also any time the GPU is involved it takes away CPU load, lowering the temperature.

The fact that a CPU is "cold" means little to the core temperature if there is no proper power limit set; it just takes seconds to reach 100 degree C if all cores are 100% loaded when each core is running for example 5.5 GHz. This is mainly due to modern BIOS settings to have the turbo state applied to all cores as much as possible instead of a limited number and for a limited time (as was in the past).

I seem to have thermal throttling on the P-Core 5.

bitman wrote on 1/10/2024, 11:17 AM

@Xavier-VIBERT OK if one of the Vegas threads is running over P-core 5 when starting Vegas, it may lead to the crash... I would suggest to go into your BIOS of your motherboard, and try to find the powerlimit settings L1 and L2 and start by setting them to the INTEL recommended.

You may also want to disable multicore enhancement for a quick check if that helps with starting Vegas (but re-enable it again, it is better active and use power limiting instead)

Your processor has very steep power limits, including a 125 W processor base power (PBP), and 253 W of maximum turbo power (MTP). I do not know what your cooler is, but I would suggest to start to set the power limit L1 = L2 to the base of 125W, you need to experiment to increase gradually to an optimum power limit based on your cooling.

You do not want thermal throttling to ever occur. It can lead to data corruption and apps failing. It is a last resort failsafe mechanism.

OK, I haven't yet had the time to look at my new Bios. Coming from an old Bios from 2013, I think things may have changed a little bit in 10 years. I'm prepared to get utterly confused.
My CPU cooler is "Corsair iCUE H150i RGB ELITE" (watercooling).
Again, thanks for your help, I hope this is the reason why VP21 won't start, and I can get away with this issue rapidly.

So, I did as you said, I don't have thermal throttling any more, but VP21 still does not launch on my system. Unfortunately, there must be another cause.
