@max9 10-bit 422 HEVC is terrible for editing as only Intel GPUs can decode it. Switch to an Intel QSV decoder in preferences/ file io if you have one. Consider 10-bit 420 in the future to retain most of the quality, make use of otherwise stronger GPUs and not require proxy files to edit.

max9 wrote on 8/14/2024, 3:35 AM

I understand, thank you for the response! I’m using Canon mirrorless cameras and an AMD CPU, and unfortunately, these are the only options I have at the moment. I’ll have to use proxies.

Is anyone using Clog footage? For me, Clog don't utilize video card in preview, unlike regular video. AMD RX 6800 with both Adrenaline and PRO edition drivers

@max9 My c70 offers clog but I don't use it indoors under controlled lighting. Doesn't have much to do with video drivers. If you shoot clog, you need to either load the appropriate lut into video editors like Vegas. Or configure the editor for Aces view transforms, gamits, and color space. My c70 and xf605 also both offer hevc 4:2:0 as well as 4:2:2... 4:2:0 performs much better. Maybe Canon will add it to yours in a firmware update.

There seems to be memory leak somewhere when rendering movie. Put 2 clips timeline and started render. Had to cancel before machine RAM were fully used (48GB). Tested NVENC and without.

A fix for that is being worked on.

Vegas 20 and Vegas 22 crashing when windows created after the load process on my windows 11 PC (intel UHD 770 graphic card + i9 14900 cpu).

Any idea? I need urgently to edit my project on this new machine.

@Rudi-Sordes, RESET and see if that helps. If not, start a NEW post with all the necessary info from this POST, especially "B" and "C" if applicable.

I'm not experiencing, nor have ever experienced this issue.

Thank you very much Reyfox for your answer. The pb is that I'm talking about a 100% clean install ... First launch for both v20 and v22. It's a brand new machine with Win 11 and a killer cpu i9 14900. The problem is that I can't even get into the interface... I've got the full loading process of the software (loading my vst effects etc. about 30 seconds) and then the splash screen says "creating of the windows" or sth like this in Franch and everything disappears. If I load the windows task manager, the software disappears of the tak manager at once when the screen disappaears. Seems to be a nice proper crash.

@Rudi-Sordes ahhh,..... the dreaded French version? If you are installing the French version, don't. Install the English version and you should be good until the devs fix the issue with the French install.

Oh ... I only installed the vegas 20 french version and vegas 22 french version ... Never installed the english version. Do you suggest that I remove both and re install the english one ?

Rudi-Sordes wrote on 8/19/2024, 9:31 AM

Indeed your are right, the english language version runs perfectly. You saved my day, I need to update a heavy project and needed my new beast to divide by 5 the calculation times ...

Reyfox wrote on 8/19/2024, 11:12 AM

@Rudi-Sordes glad you can get back to editing! The Devs have reported here in the forum (somewhere) that they are aware of the issues and plan a fix. But in the meantime, you can start editing.

Now a suggestion for you. Your User Profile is blank. Put your computer specs in the Signature so if you have another issue, we won't have to ask for that information, which is a common question, "what are your computer specs".

Will vegas ever have support for new DSMC3 RED .r3d files? I have asked this of support before and they never answered

At the moment our focus is on improving playback and rendering performance with the formats we currently support. Once we have completed a majority of that work, we will begin focusing on new formats and new format variants.

How is playback of HVEC 4:2:2 for example in 22? I don't want to buy it if there's no change again.

Oh, perfect person to ask! Is there any actual improvement to Clog3 (HVEC 4:2:2) playback without proxies? Currently without proxies playback of 24fps is serviceable and 60fps is unusable.

RogerS wrote on 8/19/2024, 7:58 PM

I don't see a change if you don't have an Intel GPU which can decode 422. You might do a trial once the first or second update to 22 are released.

Please add your hardware to your signature as performance is very hardware dependent.

this doesn't effect on workflow may be, but it looks weird.

when two files rendered one by one while batch rendering.
then this happened on preview window

Old preview is still visible on preview window and new render is above of it.

just to get noticed. nothing necessary.

Got her a nasty issue. I'm a long term Vegas user, purchased many updates etc. I have a VST plugin (external) from a company that does no longer exist BUT that was incorporated in a major project of mine that I need to edit. When I load it, Vegas give a warning saying that the plugin is missing. The problem is I can' locate the concerned clips. I have a huge project with 23 hours of nested content mixed with tons of images and audio (heavy documentary with more than 50 interviews) and I really need to know what is impacted by the loss of this plugin.
So I wrote a script in C# that lists me all the plugins and track number + time code of the clips. This is awesome and it works thanks to VEGAS scripting feature, BUT I guess that since the VST plug does nos load the script can't see this effect on any track though VEGAS tells me there are a few places where the FX is missing... Any idea? This is something that a developer of VEGAS could answer within 30 seconds ... Do you know if a script can open a vegas project and analyse the clip's effects even those from plugins not installed on the PC. This is probably a weakness of VEGAS on pro project not to be able to properly open a project including a missing FX, it should either give the list of impacted clips or show a dummy fake FX interface that does nothing bu saying that this so called plugin is missing. Well you get my point I guess. Sorry for this very specific demand. If I must go to another part of the forum please advise. Many thanks in advance.

bvideo wrote on 8/20/2024, 10:33 AM

I agree that Vegas should give us more help with missing plug-ins. Perhaps as you say by substituting a surrogate in the same timeline spot. Even better if it could convert parameters from the raw to a string that could be inspected.*

But at present no script can help. Seems your only hope is to reinstall the plugin and load your project on whatever version of Vegas worked with that plug-in. Then use your script.

* Interestingly the color grading panel stores several parameters as strings representing groups of numbers, rather than native binary format numbers, as most other plugins do.

bitman wrote on 8/21/2024, 1:35 AM

@Rudi-Sordes Maybe select a good working VST plugin that you have NOT used in your project (as is shown in the list of your script), then (temporary) rename that VST to the offending legacy VST, start up VEGAS, locate the 'fake' VST in your script (as it now maybe loaded), then remove or replace the VST, save the project, exit and rename the good working VST back to its original name...

Orientation metadata other than 0 degrees in jpg files causes multiple forms of distortion in photos (previously reported in relation to rewriting photos to change DPI). Rewriting photos often re-orients the image and saves it with orientation 0, which is one of the workarounds.

I'm not sure about this particular bug, but I do know the team has been hard at work addressing an issue regarding still image distortion, so keep an eye out for updates on that.
