Having worked in software development for 17 years before changing to video production (and now back in software too), I worked many projects involving migration from old to new systems.

We mapped tables and attributes. We mapped codifying "lookup" tables, and assured all data in the old system made its way to the new system.

Why? Because we understood the essential VALUE that the data provided.

It would be a severe (and lazy IMO) oversight of this implementation team to not make every effort to migrate existing content to the new platform. The breadth of knowledge is vast, and undoubtedly helps both new and longtime users alike.

@NickHope also thanks for the heads-up. The Message part of this forum is easily overlooked/skipped as not a lot of new stuff is added there. And certainly not the last few months...
This forum is a gem which has saved a lot a users (including me) with solutions, workarounds or explanations on sound, vision and even script programming. I am looking forward to the archive!

I am not sure what the management at Magix will do with the Magix forum...I am only aware of what the plans are for this forum.
As far as Sound Forge and Acid, we do intend to have new sections on the new platform for those products as they are now being handled by the Vegas team (and is consistent with them being sold on the Vegas Creative Software website).

Why not keep the old forum in a read only state. No need to manage it. The new forum could be created without interfering with the old one. The reason given to ditch the old one, 'too difficult to maintain' (I'm paraphrasing) seems to be a weak one. Keeping the old forum in a read only state means that it wouldn't need maintaining at all. Or is there a more obscure reason for ditching it?

Obscure reasons? Yes. But some potential reasons could include the difficulty of maintaining this old system and the cost keeping this server running. I am sorry if you consider this a weak reason, but trust me, this really is the only viable option available to us.

As I have stated, we will be looking into a way to preserve the current forum, but any solution will not be immediately available. On top of that, some of the moderators have begun looking into archiving options as well.

Wow, blast from the past! Thanks for the heads-up Nick. Back when Magix first put up their own forum i couldn't get my login to work for ages. I think what we finally did was delete the account and i recreated it. But, by then i was off doing other things. Mostly in hardware sales these days, part owner of a cute little hardware store, without a whole lot of time or money to spend on creative pursuits. Still crank up Vegas & Sound Forge for every Sunday service at church though.

@Reyfox I don't know if I will still have permissions to pin posts in the new forum. Nevertheless, I plan to recreate some of those important posts such as the 'where to download' and the release-history post (if the new forum allows such long list of links etc.).

I have just unlocked the post you refer to and also https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/important-information-required-to-help-you--110457/ so that anyone can make suggestions for corrections and additions below it, so I can try to get them as correct as possible first time.

Thanks for the heads up. Will messages be archived for reference? I just ported all my private messages to a spreadsheet to play it safe after losing them all once before.

Direct messages will not be archived or ported over as users will need to create new user accounts on the new platform..

I was able to archive all my direct messages by pasting them into Word . Then I copied them from Word to Excel to organize them better. Pasting them directly into Excel or via Paste-Special didn't work as well.

I hoped that this post is about new release of build of Vegas Pro 23. I am sad that there is no VP23 build yet.

I've put together a guide (VEGAS Pro Troubleshooting Guide: Common Issues and Solutions) on my personal webpage. Most of the solutions come from my own experience and various posts on the current Vegas forum. If newcomers run into certain common issues, checking out this guide right away will help them resolve the problems quickly without needing to post new questions. I think this guide will be really useful once the Vegas forum is updated.

(I'd recommend using the GitHub Pages one, since Netlify's free plan has relatively limited bandwidth. I'm concerned that if more people visit, it might exceed the monthly limit.)
