DPI Scaling Issues with Vegas 18

Amadeus- schrieb am 06.08.2021 um 03:49 Uhr

I have a large monitor running at 3440x1440. I'm already running Windows at 125% DPI Scaling, but Sony Vegas 18 is still very small with regard to fonts, etc. I don't want to increase the DPI scaling of everything in the operating system just for Vegas, but I can't see any other way to fix it. Why is there not just a display setting to increase EVERYTHING in the application by x%, etc.?

Anyway, I see the settings "Use High DPI Scaling (where available" and "Use Alternate HighDPI Scaling" -- but, I'm not sure what those things mean and/or what they do. The first option has a BLANK description in the PDF manual (page 555) and the second option isn't even mentioned in the manual.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I just want to make it so that everything in Vegas scaled larger than it is right now. I'm mystified as to why the display options don't have a sliding scale for this ...but, surely there has to be a solution somehow?

Thanks!

Me too ... I'd love to know how to increase the screen size of everything on Vegas Pro 18. I have dual 24" 16x9 monitors set at 125% (150% causes too much clipping off of some of Vegas' toolbars). Anxiously awaiting for any help from the community.

I have the high-res monitor on the my laptop set to 1920x1080 with a 175% dpi, I often need to temporarily reduce the dpi back to 125% to access all the render settings. Vegas is obviously designed for folks with perfect or better eye site.. all others be damned. </end rant>

Yea, or designed for people who sit right at the screen. I prefer to use a big monitor but sit further back from the screen. I just don't get why this wasn't addressed in v18, and I'm concerned it's not being addressed in v19. There are plenty of apps out there who have sliders for DPI scaling within the program, so I'm not sure why this is still a problem in 2021.

Well, there's always reading glasses. Then your eyes will be "perfect" too. :)

Obviously this is a personal preference kind of thing, and there's tons of complaining about windows UI scaling all over the internet (including competing NLE's), but I have found Vegas to be about perfect on a 32" UHD display at 125% scaling. IMO if you go smaller than that, then UHD resolution is too high and the type will end up too small.

Yea, but we shouldn't be having to compromise like this. I'd prefer to hear from a developer why they're ignoring this problem. I totally get that it wouldn't be fixable on older versions, but they've had plenty of time since this became an issue to implement a solution by v18 ...and especially by v19.

Also, while 125% makes most modern applications look fine for me, it's not helping Vegas Pro the same. They need to do more.

Lower your monitor resolution. You don't need that tight a preview.

BTW, "dpi" is a printers' term, without an application in terms of display resolution.

DPI is used extensively when referring to Resolution Independence and other issues related to modern, high-resolution monitors. "DPI" is also referenced throughout modern operating systems and has to do with how things are displayed on a monitor, not printing (per se.) It is a relatively new issue/concern, a result of modern large and/or high resolution monitors requiring additional settings throughout operating systems and in applications. For better or worse, they have borrowed "DPI" (e.g., "DPI Scaling" "HighDPI", etc.) and use it quite a bit.

As an example, see how often those three letters are used in this article (46 instances.) The article is primarily about how elements on a computer screen are rendered at sizes independent from the pixel grid, and while it does reference printing and typesetting, is clearly with regard to monitors and display resolutions: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resolution_independence

With regard to your comment on lowering monitor resolution, that's a hack suggestion given that I'm sure many of us use our monitors for more than just Vegas Pro.

This might be a good suggestion to add to the feature requests thread which the developers watch:
