LUT to Remove HDR10

Musicvid wrote on 9/3/2021, 7:48 PM

I noticed that when Youtube HDR downloads are converted to formats that play in Vegas, either by HOS or Handbrake, the HDR 2020 color space is also retained -- often unwanted, especially when converting for 8 bit projects. It's more than a matter of rewriting metadata, and the converters mentioned have no way ofdownconverting HDR to SDR (709 color space).

So here is a LUT I wrote to do just that -- downconvert 2020 to 709, and it can be applied to either 10- or 8-bit projects. Hoping some folks try this and report back, technically it is REC_2020_PQ -> REC_709_Full.

There are HDR and non-HDR versions that can be downloaded

Hmm, in VEGASpro19, the colorgrading panel does this job very well:

1, footage onto timeline (if needed, adjust the nits value and/or color range)

2, choose V-Log_to_Rec709 as inputLUT, you can control its strength

3, in case you can furthermore pull the HSL-filter for fine adjustment

But usually, the inputLUT fulfill all your wish

Sorry about that!

Permission granted to all, Captain, and I just uploaded a revision with slightly improved shadow detail.

Let me know if it works for you. It is supposed to downconvert your HDR 2020 to SDR 709.

I've included this in my free LUTS4Vegas download, which includes nearly 200 LUTS and Profiles, including:

  • Canon official camera LUTS
  • Panasonic color grading LUTS
  • Generic ICC Monitor Profiles
  • Photo and Monitor Profile LUTS (essential in Vegas)
  • Video color space conversion LUTS

They got the uploads working again -- at least for the time being. See just above for the latest incarnation of the correction LUT.
