VEGAS Pro Feature Requests

I love the Beziere Masking but 5 holes in the screen isn't enough to make an x-rite video color-chart mask. And I cannot seem to be able to get around that by stacking more that one. Maybe some presets for color-charts like in Resolve?

The tracking in Vegas is nowhere near as good as the mocha pro tracking it's simple but yet you have more control over the tracking and you can do more complex stuff compare beziere masking

VP one doesn't work for me whenever I try it all always kind of off and doesn't track properly unless u manually do it which most I might be perfect

The only thing it's it's a bit pricey the Boris effects, mocha pro

Vegas does have screen capture but there's always a bug with it

LOCK MARKERS to EVENTS. I've been a Vegas user since V4 and figured it would be simple to add this feature in the "next version". Does no one else miss the ability to slide an event up or down the timeline with markers intact? Ripple edit doesn't cut it for individual events.

Wouldn't it be nice if I could just grab a disk folder, it would save so much time, drop it into project media, or even onto the time line, and Vegas makes the bin, same name as on disk... Sung to the tune of the Beach Boys.

A feature request from another thread... I challenge team-Magix to get this out of their heads. 😀

They are more likely to skip the important features in VP and give us some basic features VP 17 only had 30 new features DaVinci resolve had more than 30. editing softwares have more stuff like avid and Adobe if your working on yt or a film u need the tools to take control as the main editor and avid makes it very easy to work as a team Vegas doesn't that y it's not popular in yt or production houses

Please add the possibility to simply increase event audio gain (now you can only decrease it).

Did no one mention a functional audio syncing tool? Its so fundamental to any NLE of today's standards, I'm surprised its not listed in the first post.

Right click; click properties and check the box that says "normalize audio" This will max out the levels without clipping. 💪

My updated list :) :

1. Stability for GPU usage. Indeed, as someone else said it, when no GPU enabled, Vegas is rock solid for me too. So, maybe try to organize/wrap the GPU activity under a separate process, so that even if something goes wrong with it, will not kill Vegas all together. I don't even know if this would be possible...

2. Allowing more customization for keyboard shortcuts. For instance, I would love to be able to press lets say Shift and Select with the mouse in order to mark multiple clips and then drag them where I need, rather than pressing D twice, select, drag then again press D twice. Or, when using ripple, instead of changing the mode, rather have the function assigned to a key and to work only while that key is pressed down, when release it, it goes back in no-ripple. Or for normalizing sounds.

3. Or a right-click+drag selection would be just fine.

3. I miss a plugin that would do progressive defocus.

4. An updated, unified text editor, with proper 3D abilities.

5. Please - customizable size for icons - or if not possible, just make them a little bit bigger, not by much, but some what larger. And then customizable UI colors would be sooo nice! In other words, an updated, scalable UI!

6. Re-normalize of audio, and the possibility to add gain to the audio event through gain control to above 0db.

7. I would like to have the edges of events/clips a little bit better marked for better working with the mouse. . Problem is the edges are not well defined in my opinion and they could do with better snapping. So, for instance, when you are close to the edge, just have the mouse snap either to the end of clip A - if the mouse comes from the left, or to the beginning of clip B - if the mouse comes from the right. I hope it makes sense what I am saying here, it does in my mind...:)

8. Smoother results on the velocity curves. I cannot explain it well, but this could do with nicer results.

9. Improved, faster processing video-stabilization, with the option of camera lock or tripod for complete lock.

10. Please add a video de-noiser plugin, even if basic. A proper de-noise would be needed, in a Pro version of any NLE. Vegas could do with one!

11. Wound be very useful if the plug-in pop-up windows would adapt its dimensions dynamically according to the plug-in that is open, without double-click on the bar above.

12. Please fix the render window to not hide anymore behind the main Vegas window. When first happened I was very confused what was going on. And it still does.

13. Add a kind of Inspector window, similar to Color Grade window in VP17, for basic handling of the events.

14. Add a side-chaining enabled compressor.

15. Please upgrade the transitions and effects, as they are the same for many many versions the same. Basically, they are pretty much all at version 1.0.0 and definitely they would need some modern feel, look and functions.

VP has normalisation but it not as easy as DaVinci resolve has keyframes that's move with the waveform Vegas Pro doesn't let you use keyframes that move with the waveform if u know what I mean or just check the first video.

adimatis wrote on 5/7/2020, 2:35 AM

You do have the possibility to move the nodes with the event, that is if you use the Volume Envelope for the audio track!

Make sure the Lock Envelope to Events option is on.

The problem I have is that you need to -renormalize each time a split is happening in the audio event and that you can not add gain to above 0db... Like in Resolve.

support rendering 4k 5.7k 8k. with a 1: 2 aspect ratio for 360 video

THIS! They falsely advertise as 8k 360 being compatible, when in reality it is not.

One thing that I have missed almost in every single edit is LOCK IN TIME, so that when a clip is positioned properly it will NOT move accidentally.

Another one that is relevant for using video from distributed cameras is the ability of specifying a time offset for the audio track, positive as well as negative so that it ACTUALLY can be used as sync reference.

Also, when precision is needed I want to be able to specify a clips offset from project start in to the millisecond or frame, whatever is most useful. Sometimes that is better than trying to nudge them in place.

Marco. wrote on 6/6/2020, 5:49 PM

@digilyd
At least one of your requests already exists. You can lock Events via right-click/Switch/Lock.

Not sure about the clip offset from project start. What you can do is setting the timecode of your timeline start manually. So if you started your project a timecode 00:00:00:00, setting a different timecode at the project start will offset all your clips.

And to offset a particular track you could insert time at the beginning of the track while rippling is turned on.

Thank you, you mean well, but don't quite get it, perhaps because I have some habits from Cool Edit pasted to my mind. Vegas is to my liking because it reminds of it in so many good ways btw.

No, not lock event, that just locks it for all actions, which is why I abandoned using it several versions ago, probably back in my "movie editor" days, what is required is lock in time and only that, so that it does not move at all when reselected or accidentally touched, but I still want to modify it. That is why I am using Vegas, a total lock could be practical but is less needed  because there will be additional choices to modify event. And it should  be in first layer of the menu. Learn from Audition, if adobe didn't break it, they tend to remove what they do not understand because they do not know what stereo is.

No, I do not want an easy way to offset all events, I want an  easy way to offset the selected event on a track.

If a camera is at the back of the church the concert is in, I want to be able to offset its audio by a specified number of milleseconds to make it an easy align. Can't wait until tomorrow for the autosync, and that one needs this anyway. And to be rethought, it does not seem to align files like a human does, otherwise it would take it seconds and not hours.

No, I do not want to offset a particular track - which probably could be useful, but not the twig I have tripped over - I want to move one event on the track a specified number of milliseconds.one digit decimal. That there other half of the brain wants to have a say sometimes …. O;-) … it can't get it easier that offsettime from start, must  be how the software positions it anyway, isn't it?

I would like to see in VP18 the ability to do bulk rendering as can be done in HitFilm Pro and Resolve.

Over the last couple of days, I've been going through the process of transcoding a whole lot of Samsung phone 30fps events to 25fps, but sometimes having to decide whether or not smart sampling or no sampling is better. To maintain event names, each event also needs to be done individually. But each event then needs to be rendered individually before moving on to the next event - and that means waiting, waiting, waiting for the render to complete. I would much prefer to be able to work on a series of events without interruption and add them to a Render Queue - in a similar way to HF and Resolve - so that the they can all be rendered in a bulk process.

BTW, I've already done them in Resolve but due to the nature of the image (flashing/strobbing lights during a theatrical performance where photography was allowed), the Resolve transcode result was awful and unusable - the image was disjointed and jumping about. The result in VP17 is just so much better.

My list is short. One item.....

1. Lossless render/stitching option

I'm sure there's some other name for it, but basically if I shoot a video and would like to do some quick cuts to trim the start and end points of the video to say upload it to Facebook or Youtube, I shouldn't need to be an expert video editor to have to go wading through a bunch of video codec render setting adjustments. I just want to import the video in it's original format, trim the head/tail, and save it back out as the exact same format it was imported as without it taking hours to render and additionally suffering a loss in quality.

I believe someone mentioned to me that Video Redo TV suite has this feature but it sure would be nice seeing it in Vegas rather than going out and purchasing another program to do this. I got a free app on my phone which is able to do this, but can't seem to do it in Vegas Pro.
