Can't import Panasonic CX-350 UHD .mov files into Vegas Pro 13

Hi folks,

Media info shows my Panasonic CX-350 UHD 30p .mov files as AVC mpeg4 in a .mov wrapper as expected . They play fine in VLC and media Player classic as installed with Happy Otter scripts.

Using the import function in HOS, simply re-wrapping the file to .mpeg4, results in a green screen in the project files window and on the timeline. HOS uses ffmpeg for the conversion, all elements installed normally.

I re-installed the latest Quicktime (7.)++ etc.)...no joy.

My setup is an i7 6700k @ stock 4.0GZ, 16GB ram and a Radeon RX460 video card on Win 7 Ultimate. I can play AVC UHD 29.97P MP4 files at nearly full speed at Best half (from Panasonic DVX200) with no issues.

I really don't want to re-encode the files ...loss of quality issues.

I'm obviously missing something in the HOS settings.

Any help here is really appreciated.

Your characterization is interesting, but confusing. Please post the actual MediaInfo readout, not a synopsis.

Conversion, rather than muxing, may be necessary.

Thanks Musicvid. Yes, I had to convert the file(s) with Virtual Dub to a Cineform .avi. Fortunately, Vdub was able to retain the UHD 10 bit HLG profile of the original, although at 4 times the file size. I'll keep the UHD renders for those few shots that may need stabilization or slight cropping; otherwise I'll just let Vdub downconvert to 1080p for editing and CC, since that is my delivery format. I see no visual difference on the monitor between the original and Cineform files, and a very minor difference on the scopes.

Ahh, my intuition was correct, and I wish now I hadn't walked back my original thoughts for you in my last edit.

You won't rewrap 10 bit hlg/HDR to MP4 because the container format is not supported (in any practical sense). You should be able to convert to 8 bit 420 or 422, however, for import. HEVC is not supported in Vegas 13 afaik.

Since your output is 1080p anyway, this should not be a problem.
