User John-Ivar Frelsøy Eidsmo is a long time believer of using Vegas Pro as a tool for animation.

He posted one example of his work on Norways biggest research institute, SINTEF, in Vegas Editor's Hub Facebook group (considered as an official Vegas Pro Facebook group)

Our Sweetwater 420 Festival recap

@fr0sty

Nice editing pace. Exciting but easy on the brain!

fr0sty schrieb am 14.09.2019 um 07:40 Uhr

Thanks! That one was tricky, as it rained most of the festival, which meant most of our shots had dull color and grey skies, so we had to do a lot of color work to try to make that less noticeable, and we maximized the little bit of blue sky we did get that weekend.

Yes, I saw the enhancements, and I think for the subject, a music festival, they were entirely appropriate.

OTOH, the 50th Woodstock special on PBS was deliberately left grainy, gray, and flat, as if the viewers were trapped in Super 8 land, along with all the participants.

Only got a Facebook link for this one, as their marketing team only posted it there so far, but here's a multi-camera shoot we did of Widespread Panic from their festival down in Mexico, for their song "Chilly Water". Love the crowd participation on this one.

Couple of drone shots from Long Island New York.

Loved the shots, loved the leveling, percussive music just doesn't fit the scene, sorry.

karma17 schrieb am 15.09.2019 um 09:23 Uhr

@fr0sty Enjoyed the video. Just curious, what are you shooting with? Sorry if you mentioned that somewhere else before. I just switched to a GH5 because I need a smaller form factor. I see you were doing your hyperlapse in this one! Are you shooting 60 FPS for all the slow mo?

fr0sty schrieb am 15.09.2019 um 09:35 Uhr

We shoot with a combination of 4 GH4's, a GH5, 2 GH5s's, a panasonic EVA1, a panasonic S1 (soon to be two), Sony A7s2 and FS7 cameras and Phantom 4 and mavic 2 pro drones.

Panasonic seems to be winning the battle over our fleet... its video features just can't be beat for what we do. The sony's are limited to 8 bit on the handhelds, and the battery life sucks, plus 30 minute record limits. plus they just aren't as rugged for field use. we're in festival conditions around tens of thousands of highly intoxicated people in some of the most humid and sandy jungle beach climates on earth. it doesn't take long for them to start wearing down.

Most slomo is 4k60 slowed down, though for specific shots we may go to 1080 and shoot higher frame rates.

great seeing other vegas edits! Some great lensing, colors and edits.

Here's a rushed production that I wrote, directed, and edited, so the fails are my fault. No need to point out what didn't work, believe me, I already know, but did what we could with very limited time frame. :) HAd to be one continuous shot.

and a quick project for my actor friend's reel

A friend of mine in China, who is a tour operator, is being proactive and looking ahead to the return of tourism. They have actually started to see the light at the end of the tunnel, with regard to Covid-19, and that light is NOT a train. There is actually increased movement allowed about the country, albeit with masks and temperature checks of individuals, before they are allowed into grocery stores and other facilities.

My friend asked me to produce a short video about the famous Terracotta Warriors of Xian, easily one of the most popular tourist attractions in China. He knew I had the raw material (clips) as I toured the place with him. And as I have LOTS of time on my hands, I was happy to oblige. I decided to depart from my usual style (more documentary) and, as Emeril would say, I wanted to "kick it up, a notch!" This was my first foray into using templates in MVP. Lotsa' fun!

I had a missionary trip last September to Uganda. I had no idea what to expect, so traveled really really light. No tripod, and just 2 lenses for my Panasonic G9. Oh, I brought two large suitcases full of material to give away.

It was and exhausting trip (10 days), but a happy one.

made quickly for a "Cellphone Only" quarentine contest online. wrote wednesday, filmed thursday and saturday, edited in Vegas 17, shot on $99 Samsung phone. PLEASE feel free to critique ANYTHING you want about it. I can take it, and only grow from it. The audio is cell phone horrible, and I plan to never use such crappy tools ever again.

set schrieb am 22.04.2020 um 01:32 Uhr

You have done the best you can do... with a limited equipment.... 🙂👍

If your phone can do 4K and do a more digital zoom from it, that can simulate a different focal length, although DOF may not be.

btw, where's this online contest challenge? in case I or other user wants to participate :)
