Can't say I've experienced crashing during rendering at all. And I've tossed on some crazy plugins onto clips for test purposes. Not one crash.

@Gaz-Spitfire so how about starting your own thread and include the necessary information found HERE (especially "B" and "C") to see if there is a solution for you.

Or, send in a support ticket ....

Drats.... @Dexcon beat me to it....

I'm using some time stretched VEGAS PRO animated text files over some mov overlays and a few mp4s nothing too taxing on an I9 64 gb ram ssd rtx3070 and it has now crashed honestly about 40 times ..It never used too .So it's a bit hard for me to believe you are throwing everything at it ,you clearly are not .Perhaps make some text files i used text 04 ..chuck in some mov files overlays, mess with the opacity then some mp4s of your main vid ,time stretch some of them if your feeling brave and watch it crash and get stuck on renders and enjoy standing at the threshold of hell of video editing, its literally four vid tracks if that and an audio track it has to render out ,not hard . This update is useless ,as is quite frankly Vegas Pro at the moment buggy as all hell,it worked well enough before .Not impressed now stressed and losing money. In this day and age it should be working smoother and crashes like this belong to the past its 2023 .I work with 3d software and it is miles ahead in stability than this Vegas Pro 20.

I'd start a new thread and share MediaInfo for the mp4s which are likely the problem. If it's a i9K CPU make sure to enable the iGPU for decoding.

Vegas Pro 20, Build 403. Imported Media into Vegas Pro and I can see the clips. With this new build, I can not drag media down into timeline and worked before. However, if I double-click the clip, it will go into the timeline.

1. VEGAS isn't 3D software. Apples to oranges.

2. I use Cinema 4D, one of the industry standard 3D animation apps out there, and manage to make it crash just about every time I use it. It is extremely unstable.

If you're having trouble with this build, nothing prevents you from installing an older build until the issue is fixed.

Except that earlier builds won't open without workarounds like disconnecting from the internet.

This is anecdotal. Yesterday, I worked 7 hours with VP20 B403. Using Pan/Crop, transitions, velocity envelopes, titles (Vegas and NBFX TP7), music, etc.. Overall, 229 assets of 4:3 photos (20MP), videos (UHD 4K 50P) and titles for a 4 1/2 minute video.

I had Brave browser and Task Manager open, and Malwarebytes and Bitdefender running in the background, along with Explorer open to various file locations. I'd fully render out complex portions of the video to see how they actually played back.

Not one crash for me. Not one. Surprising considering the day before, there were a lot of crashes in 1 hour, making me rethink my previous comment above.

And concerning that one comment above, I was using BorisFX Continuum Complete 2023 a lot on various clips and didn't suffer any crashes.

@Gaz-Spitfire Did you have a VP20 version that did work well with more acceptable levels of crashing, if so what version?

There's a bug with Upscale not deactivating when the fx is clicked on to turn off, it only deactivates when the fx is removed from the chain. This doesn't always happen, but enough times I've noticed it.

Howard-Vigorita wrote on 5/28/2023, 12:14 PM

Has not done that yet on my laptop w/3060 gpu selected. I've been enabling/disabling ai-Upscale allot, swapping back and forth between ai-Upscale and legacy-SmartZoom. If ai-Upscale didn't deactivate when I unchecked its fx box and checked SmartZoom, it would defeat the purpose of speeding things up. I just tried checking them both to see what happens and there's no missing it running even slower. Not to mention the double-dose of zoom.

Hi all...wondering how best to setup work panels on my 3 monitors for best editing - have just moved from Premiere Pro

fr0sty wrote on 5/28/2023, 11:42 PM

The beauty of VEGAS is, you can arrange it however it benefits you most. I personally have a dual-monitor laptop, which I then connect to an HDR display via HDMI, so the HDR display is my full screen preview, my timeline goes on the bottom monitor of my laptop, and my effects, generators, media bin, etc. all go on the main laptop monitor.

Hallo @eugey
Would be nice if there was any response to the help attempts you received. Did any of it help you, or what experiences you had with the different settings or something.

RogerS wrote on 5/29/2023, 2:37 AM

"Nothing forthcoming" means you didn't try to do what Frosty suggested? What are you trying to put on each screen?

A very basic configuration is just to have Vegas on one monitor and a full screen preview on a second (click the button above the preview window to toggle full-screen display on a second monitor- you have to tell Vegas which display is what in the display configuration). A third can be for Windows explorer, your notes, an audio editor, etc.

You can also undock parts of the program (click the tab and drag) and move them.

RogerS- thank you...thought there might have been a favoured way to spread the panels across various monitors. I can see I seem to be asking the wrong question maybe. Thanks for your suggestion

RogerS wrote on 5/29/2023, 10:26 PM

I don't think so as there's no one setting for all purposes and not many people use 3 monitors. You may want a different layout for audio editing, color grading and editing the timeline and can save as many custom layouts as you like in VEGAS. Personally I stick close to defaults though have scopes show when I fix color and make sure audio meters are visible when working on audio and general editing.

If I had 3 full size monitors (my laptop's bottom screen is hal-height), I'd have the timeline and my project media, VEGAS hub, media generators, etc. all on monitor 1, full screen preview on monitor 2, and on monitor 3, the audio mixer and color scopes. However, it's up to you to choose what suits your workflow best, there is no "right" way to do it, tinker with it and see what you like!

Is it possible to split a timeline clip into 2 parts while holding the timeline cursor indicator with a mouse (while dragging) and pressing a shortcut key?

It is possible to do in Resolve, Premiere, Avid, Pinnacle, Edius and other NLE's.

Is there a way to edit quickly by dragging with mouse and splitting with hotkey?

Please advice how to setup this, thanks!

RogerS wrote on 6/7/2023, 7:29 PM

Try alt and [ or ] to trim or s to split.

My goal is to cut 6 hours of footage by only dragging the mouse and pressing S when the clip needs to be split.

Pretty straightforward editing job I've done for years in another software.

Now my client asked me to work in Vegas and this drives me crazy I can't accomplish something as basic as splitting clips...

P.S. What I found is that almost none of the hotkeys are operational while the left mouse button is pressed and hold.

Am I missing something?!

Reyfox wrote on 6/8/2023, 1:08 PM

What do you mean "dragging the mouse"? What other editing software allows you to do what you are referring to?

As for the hot keys not working while holding down the left mouse button, I would think they wouldn't since the mouse is registered with the hot key. Like pressing other keys in addition to the hot key.
