5.1 sound rendering on VMS16 platinum

Leon-Maree wrote on 5/20/2019, 5:42 AM

I have recently updated from 14 and now have problems with sound cutting out and eventually gone after about 15 minutes when rendering/playing timeline, and if I revert back to 14 the same is now happening there. Anybody with same experience/solutions?

Now editing with Dell Inspiron laptop. Intel i7-3630M cpu @ 2.4 GHz 64bit with 16Gb memory. Windows 10 Pro updated. Files M2ts 5.1 Dolby Digital 3D AVCHD. Render to Seagate Hard drives for personal viewing. Dont do DVD anymore. Never done Blueray.

Think I am going to need i9-9900 very soon, new laptop?

In Vegas Preferences, choose ASIO or HD Audio drivers.

Txs for reply, but I am not with you. In Vegas (VMS16P) I go Options - Preferences - Audio Device. It was always set to Microsoft Sound Manager, but there is an Advanced, but it is greyed out. Am I where I should be?

I have Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 16 Suite, on an i7-6800K sitting aboard an MSI X99A Gaming 7 motherboard. It uses the "Realtek" audio drivers, acquired from the MSI site for my motherboard, not the Windows downloaded drivers. I am running Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit (1809 build 17763.503). It is listed within the "Options-Preferences-Audio Devices", and mine is selected for "Realtek ASIO", with the other choices available.

1st: Do you have the Audio drivers from your manufacturer installed for your platform and Operating System?

2nd: Try a "System Reset" back to default settings. Hold down "Ctrl + Shift" and "Double-Click" the "Movie Studio Platinum 16" icon on your DESKTOP, click in the box for "Delete...", then click "O.K.". That will "reset" your preferences to the "Default', and you can from there go through and "adjust" your settings per your way of working.

Others more Learned and Informative will probably provide further "Guidance". Of course, having a profile with your system specifications, would also greatly assist those trying to provide help.

If you do not have ASIO or HD AUDIO drivers and instead have Mapper or WMD drivers active, they are not being recognized by Vegas.

Install the latest drivers for your card, another thing to try is a sideload calledo ASIO4ALL.

Thanks for your comments. I have given info in signature. So I am working from an out of box laptop and everything worked fine with 14. (After Magix fixed initial lack of 5.1 sound in build 148) 60 days ago I upgraded to 16 and then sound render only good 14 minutes. Fiddled around with Magix suggestions and now not even sound in trimmer after third trim. Yet when I open same file in Sound Forge 13 it plays as good as ever and also trial run of Edit Pro Plus. So I think the sound drivers works. Also we use PAL.

Reluctant to fiddle with laptop as I am no IT guy. Prefer software working out of the box too. I do these edits to shorten and clean my personal videos for my personal use, eg memories in pictures and very few effects. But I am stuck with my Sony AVCHD 3D 5.1 clips and projects that need further work. Would prefer to go back to 14 but think files were overwritten and now effects 14, even if 16 uninstalled.

I found reading through the community's comments interesting but often beyond my capabilities. It was interesting to read about the So4compound and regret not knowing about you guys then. Magix just told me my 5.1 problem was a known issue and I went back to 11 for my edits, until the day that I received a notification that an updates was available, when things came together for 14.

I am afraid that 16 is another repeat of same story, not catering for Sony 5.1 so I will wait again for the fix.
