A Couple Of Questions About Render Settings (Vegas Pro 18)

Hi there.

Firstly, I'm wondering about the "Profile" setting in the Custom Render settings for the MAGIX AVC/AAC MP4 template. My profile setting is set to "High" usually, but I've seen a lot of video editors recommend "Main." Is one better than the other? I've tried to look the profile types up in the help index for Vegas, but there doesn't seem to be any mention of them at all in there.

Secondly, why does rendering using Main Concept encode mode take so much longer compared to NV encoder? To put it in perspective, rendering speed using the former (for the footage in question, rendering is otherwise set for best possible quality) goes at a measly average of 3-4fps; wherein, the latter is twice that speed, at around 14-15fps. At Main Concept's rate, it would literally take an entire day (12 hours appx.) to render this kind of capture at say, 50 minutes long. It would only take the NV encoder a couple of hours for the same task (which is still long asf, but when upscaling everything too, it's not terrible; well, maybe). Does using Main Concept have some sort of quality or stability advantage, ergo the slowness?

1. the encoder profile is automatic. It deals with your chosen resolution and frame rate; and never needs to be considered. It is not a "quality" setting, it is just a report.

2. One uses your Nvidia GPU, the other uses only CPU.

GPU encoding is faster, produces larger files, and has lower quality, generally speaking..

Hmm, one would think a higher quality render would produce the larger file, but I guess not.

(Thanks for the link, I'll give it a once-over for any future inquiries.)

No, a low quality render done very quickly can be wasteful with its use of data.
