An error occured...This Application does not support this file type

I have these .MOV files. They are were from the same camera from the same event and some will load and some will not and give me the same error. I did notice that the ones that would load also have a .sfk file created and the ones that don't do not ( I don't know that this .sfk file does). All video play fine with a video player, just some wont load at all into my project media at all.

I'm happy to provide more details, I just don't know what info is needed. I had problems with .MOV files and Studio 13 so I upgraded to 17 Platinum and changed a Deprecated Features to Enabled the QuickTime plugin. But now this is happening.

Movie Studio creates SFK files to be able to display the timeline audio waveform for the source clips. You maybe need to have Quicktime installed as Windows component to be able to have Movie Studio read some flavors of MOV files.

I have QuickTime Version 7.7.9 . Why would the file A open, file B not be right filetype and then file C be ok again? They are a continuation of the same recording?

Maybe they are corrupted in some way. Sometimes rewrapping such files helps.

Could you please provide a video or article that steps through a "rewrapping" ? I don't know what this is or how to do it. This would be very helpful.

It usually means to extract the video and audio stream out of the given container and pack/move into same or different kind of container again without the need to encode video or audio anew. You need a tool like FFmpeg to do this (though FFmpeg isn't a good choice for beginners).

How big in MB or GB are your files "Speeches18.MOV" and "Speeches 19.MOV"?

Wendy wrote on 4/4/2021, 2:19 PM

Speeches18.MOV is 1.27GB which works. Speeches19.MOV is 1.04GB which doesn't.

These videos are a just a handful out of hundreds of videos I have. I just happen to start with this Speeches folder. So I need to troubleshoot the reason and a sustainable solution.

Can you upload a short file that doesn't work to Drive or Dropbox (not Youtube)?

How did you import these videos into VMS? Any chance that the ones that don't work are files that exceeded a file storage limit (2gig or 4gig) and were broken up by the camera into separate files? They might need to be rejoined by using an app that may have come with the camera.

Sure! I will do that and post tomorrow.
