"an error occurred while starting playback. The request is..." message

david-ruby wrote on 9/28/2020, 2:22 PM

I see that this was or might still be a common problem. If I render out some media (xavc-s) or any type, If I close that timeline and choose to drop a few clips in to start a new timeline I get that message every time with no playback available. If I close VP18 and start up again it is fine. Was this ever solved?

Full error message: An error occurred while starting playback. The request is not enabled for this device.

Which audio device is choosen at Options/Preferences/Audio Device? If you have more than one choose another or upgrade your drivers for them.

AudioBox ASIO Driver. My meters on audio plugins were not in sync with the actual audio so I was told to use asio drivers. This did fix that problem. I have also listed mapper and windows classic drivers. The windows classic seems to work with audio plugin meters but if you move anything on the timeline around you get drop outs from the audio playing back. Mapper does not help meters. Unfortunately Presonus has discontinued the audiobox usb driver updates but it was last updated 7-2020.

Not sure if I'm understanding, but could this be part of the problem?

david-ruby wrote on 9/28/2020, 2:42 PM

I will try this sir thank you!

I am on a project at moment and will give it a go so I will report back.

Musicvid That didn't seem to work but I believe I narrowed this down. It seems I only get this error after render and closing out timeline when I have the external monitor engaged. I don't have a clue on this but I can reproduce everytime now doing this. I can only guess audio or video driver? Both up to date though.

So is this related to your other thread this morning? I don't think I've encountered anything like that, but driver issues are definitely suspect, as you stated before.

david-ruby wrote on 9/28/2020, 3:48 PM

Honestly I don't know yet. Hope to hear back from Eric but German time is hard to keep up with. I might just borrow another audio unit from a studio and see if it is audio driver related. I will also reach out to nvidia. I can work without an external monitor of course but would love to really see what is going on. I will keep this alive so if anyone ever has this happen they can breathe again LOL. I will update soon. Thank you for your help everyone here.

I had this problem a year ago - and quite long to finally solved it. I need to reinstall my official audio driver in my i950 system.

In my case, this is Win10 OS' issue, as few month ago, I also try to find out how to add mic-in on my PC for online meeting applications (Google Meet / Zoom) - it's just not working and showing error message. After reinstall driver, finally mic-in selections work.

I must ask. What is an i950 system. I'll probably look dumb now LOL.

oh, sorry...haha. it's I usually called for my 'older' PC system 😅 and I haven't had a chance to upgrade it (planned in the end of 2020 - but probably changed due to, well, pandemic)

Copy pasted from my profile:

System 1 specification (Vegas Pro 13-17):
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07GHz
Mainboard: Intel DX58SO2 Extreme Series*1
Video Card: ATI Radeon RX470 4GB Series (Digital Alliance DA DXRX 470 OC 4GB) (Adrenalin 20.5.1 (Release 5/25/2020)
RAM: 12GB
OS: Win10 Pro 64-bit Version 1903 OS Build 18362.959
*1 Yes, this is the old mainboard - still PCIe2 - so my ATI Radeon RX470, which actually made for PCIe3, might not yet running full power.

No official support anymore from Intel for this mainboard so I need to find from old driver's website. One of Win10's update last year might overwriting this.

This is a problem I've had pop up a few times. Uninstall the audio driver via device manager and restart Windows usually solved it. Recently, I was mobile with my computer and using a bluetooth speaker connection. Hard wiring the speaker to my computer input solved it.
