Vegas is capable for HDR in some aspects only up to now:

- 32bit mode is available (HDR requires 10bit at least)

- LUTs can be used

- ACES 1.0 offers the transformation to PQ, and a color management for important acquisition gamma and Gamut for HDR is available (e.g slog, vlog, clog)

- color space transformation for example from rec2020 to rec709 is available with ACES1.0

- 10 bit 420 HEVC encoding is available.

What is missing up to now:

- HLG output

- Waveform monitor with a nit scale

- preview settings for PQ and HLG

so, kinda there for the adventurous, but not fully functional. got it. thanks!

Wolfgang, Vegas is capable of rendering 10 bit REC 2020 2160p at this time, is that correct?

I think it can render out 10 bit, but if you cant see what the edit is doing, nor get the new ranges, there won't be much luck getting it to be HDR out

Yes it can render rec2020 10bit, for example with the HEVC Encoder. But for HDR you have to combine the gamut with specific gamma curves, that are partly implemented up to now only.

You can see the edit. Combine the preview with an HDR capable monitor like the Atomos Sumo and that works.

There are two grading situations typically: grade log to rec709 what will that what many users may tend to use today and in the near future. This can be done with LUTs or a color management based workflow like ACES1 or even with Filmconvert. And then we will see the grading to HDR, like to PQ or HLG. Especially for the second one we miss some pits and pieces today.

And Vegas has to become more performativ for ACES.

Ah I'm starting to get it.

And reading tells me that 10 bit HDR UHDTV broadcasts may REC 709 for some time.
