To the right of "Template", select the farthest right button. Then click on one of the files you are going to be editing. It should set the parameters to match that file.

Also, the first time you drag a file to the timeline, it asks if you want the match the project settings to that file automatically.

Yes I selected yes, but setting the render settings are still have to be set manually, its not a big issue, the issue having now is Deniose crashed Vegas 19

Look at your image again. The discrepancy is not the storage dimensions (720x480), but the Pixel Aspect Ratio (.9091 NTSC DV 4:3).

If you remember factors, the math works like this: Old Width x PAR = New Width. So 720x.9091= ~654.

Judy, your new project and display dimensions for 1.0 PAR output, which is the most common, are 654x480.

Thank you for that. Its crashing Vegas, so I am going to run it through Handbrake and see if that fixes it from crashing Vegas 19. Late here, won't be on until tomorrow, thanks for everyone's help.

As for cleaning the video up, VEGAS has a built in noise reduction effect, but for best results, use the Neat Video plugin (sold separately).

Systems:

Desktop

AMD Ryzen 7 1800x 8 core 16 thread at stock speed

64GB 3000mhz DDR4

Geforce RTX 3090

What version of Neat Video do you prefer, there is more than one. I just use Vegas 18 and 19.

I would recommend you also try Topaz Video Enhance AI (download a free trial)... it is remarkably good at improving & upscaling old footage.

Thank you all I have to pass, its only a 8 ,min clip, I rendered it 720p looks fine, can't justify spending money for 1 video. Thanks.

HI, can anyone show a screenshot on render setting? I used handbark to crop and deinterlace a 1 GB video and it worked perfect. This is from more Hi8 videos converted to MP4.

Ruby888 wrote on 3/17/2022, 9:40 AM

YOu know lots of people learn slow like me. A simple screenshot worked way better then trying to explaining I get turned off Vegas. I don't know much about Handbrak but was able to crop and deinterface the footage perfectly. You can't do that in Vegas. I am no where in the same lgue are you people are, but you have to rmmeber you started out using it and maybe still rmember being stumpped. Just need help getting the right render settings for a cutom 4:3 aspefct ratio

Judy, I understand you have a rote learning style. Based only on the properties you shared above, one example render template is shown here. There are other possibilities, and to be able to visualize those possibilites for yourself, you may wish to brush up on "factors and ratios," covered on many internet sites.

In your project properties, set your Render Quality to "Best," and set Deinterlace Method to "Interpolate."

Hi,

Okay now that is done, why is a 2 minute clip 658 MB?

Your video being 712 x 470 is uncommon. @Musicvid commented on this much earlier on (in January).

Your render settings of VBR 12 to 24 is great for HD but way OTT for SD. It's too long ago to remember correctly, but under 10,000,000 more likely 8,000,000 would be preferable for SD. That will reduce the size of the render. Work on rendering for DVD, not BD. If you want to render at HD levels, then you'll get larger renders.

@Musicvid @Dexcon 👍 above, I just randomly picked the 1920x1080 template to alter the sizes on, i didn't mention VBR because i didn't want to complicate things, just sort out the size issue, + setting the VBR too low results in a crap picture,

But i just rendered (MAGIX AVC) a 2min 1920x1080 12 - 24 VBR timeline, the file is 178MB

I rendered the same 2min project @ 712x470 12 - 24 VBR, the file is only 104MB,

PS i just tried @Musicvid settings in his picture @ 3,000,000 Sony AVC, i changed the size to 712x470, the file is 37.2MB,

So why yours is 658MB i don't know,

YOu know, not everyone is a pro, its a hobby for me. Many years go I was editing Sony Hi8 video, I can't rmember what version of software ut the video turned out good. No many years later 1020p and larger is the "in"thing. Its no problem with that video bcasue everything uses it. So now I have old footage. I tried Youtube and there is not tutorials to work with this old footage. Thats the best way to learn show and tell.

Feel free to try my settings after you have tried all the rest. Your video is probably 720x480 SAR, so 654x480 DAR at 1.0 PAR is correct for the internet. I just gave you the conservative settings exactly as you asked; I didn't ask you to understand any of it. My suggestions aren't flashy, but then again they don't contain 600MB of added air; browse my signature if you wish some context.

Best of luck.

If you want to render to DVD size for an SD sized project, in Vegas Pro's Render As option, choose as a render format 'Video for Windows', 'Windows Media Video V11' or 'MainConcept MPEG-2' the latter allowing changing the pixel width and height - this means that you can change it to 712 x 470 if you want to.

In your latest video upload, you still have the bit rate at 12,000,000 to 24,000,000, which is crazy-high for SD video.

Can someone help me out. I don't have the time to figure this out, a screen recording would be perfect, right from import, crop and deinterlace. THe company that did the work is using old programs, I searched YouTube no one out there doing my type of video. They are all 1080p settings. I can not get it to save, I have had it. Video editing is a hobby, I work, clean cook laundry, I can't spend hours leaning to editing this format that I never will see again. I had 5 Hi8 tapes converted to digital, AVI and MP4. Please do a screen recording.
