I have some pal dv camcorder tapes standard definition and if i render them to dvd i loose some quality. For best quality I keep playing them back in my camcorder because of the high data rate they were recorded at. What would be the best render settings to render them to a file which i understand would still be some loss but still better than dvd. I am thinking the best output render would be 1920 1080 50P. your help much appreciated.
How and where will you play those rendered files?
Your sourcefiles are 25 frames interlaced SD and you want FHD with a doubled progressive framerate?

I have rendered them out at at 1920 1080 HD. In the project properties I used interpolate fields instead of blend fields.The file seems to look better than dvd. My 30 minute file is 3,82GB. I want it to be able to play directly from a usb stick into a sony tv. It seems to play perfectly well, just wondering if theres any other settings i should be aware of. I hope i dont need to keep using a camcorder anymore to play them back. Im aware that they have to go through some recompression but if they can look a bit better than dvd im not bothered.

It's always best to leave the original resolution alone and let the set or player do the upscaling.
The Magix AVC Internet SD PAL template is great for this.

Thanks for letting me know. The original pal SD file is 6.91 GB for 30 minutes.Will this codec allow me to have the same file size or will it be considerably smaller. I know 6.91GB is overkill for standard definition its just that i want to transfer all my dv tapes to the best possible file format that i can easily plug into my tv.

When I use the Magix AVC for that template 30 minutes become nearly 1 GB .
That's the way I keep my orginally DV outcome to a modern Mp4 many players can play ( my 4K LG oled TV upscales them very good).
ok thanks 1 GB seems a bit low, for 30 minutes however if its the best way of converting the file to play on the tv i will give it a go and compare to my other render.

It will be considerably smaller, depending on source complexity, because of the more efficient AVC codec.
Yes, 1 - 2 GB seems a comfortable range, although you can certainly try for smaller and see how it looks to you.

When you're using Vegasmoviestudio, just render to mp4 instead of mpeg2.
