Bug with image files changing dimensions / aspect ratio

In Vegas Pro 19, I've noticed that if I significantly change the proportions of an image file on disk that's currently in use on the timeline - such as greatly changing its resolution or aspect ratio (ie change from 1000x1000 pixels to 2500x1000 pixels), this change is not reflected in the timeline/preview, and it will display the now modified image incorrectly (ie wrong size / position / unexpectedly truncated, etc) until:

1) the image is deleted from the timeline AND removed from Project Media (simply re-adding the image, or deleting and re-adding the image does not work unless it is also scrubbed from Project Media).

2) closing and re-opening the VEG file.

Since closing and re-opening the VEG does correct this, I can only assume that it should be recognizing that the file has been modified, or I would expect the incorrect display to continue even after re-loading. There's no issue with Vegas instantly reflecting changed image CONTENTS, it's just not working right with proportions.

I've been caught several times in the past few days trying to figure out why some images just aren't looking like they're supposed to be - looking proper in some places, totally messed up in others - until I discovered that closing and re-opening the VEG corrected this, and now I've figured out what's going on.

EDIT: also, "Adjust source media to better match project or render settings" is already disabled, as that's yet another thing that can cause unexpected changes to the dimensions / aspect ratio of media files.

Saving the altered image file in a photo editor works correctly here; i.e., The Vegas media, preview, and properties update in real time. What version of Vegas Pro 19 are you using?

Build 643. The bug appears to require PNG files with transparencies along the top to be triggered.

So I created a new VEG, nothing special with parameters. I created a rectangular PNG with a simple red square with a small transparent section along the TOP and BOTTOM. There are no actual sides to the file, it's just track transparency to a second track (solid black image for clarity). It looks like this in preview, which is correct:

I then modify the image of the red square by adding two equal sized YELLOW squares along the LEFT and RIGHT sides, changing the aspect ratio. The top transparencies remain the same, and the vertical height of the image remains the same. Saving overtop of the prior file, my preview suddenly changes to this:

This is definitely not right! If I save the VEG and open it again, I get this:

Which is as it should be.

Again, if I don't have a transparency along the top, this bug is NOT triggered. So if I have a single red square and nothing transparent along the top and bottom or sides, and then modify the file to add the two yellow squares on the sides, it works as expected. Even if I make the yellow squares transparent, it still works as expected.

And what photo editor are you using? I wasn't able to duplicate your problem in VP19b643.

Export from CorelDRAW 2022.

@daniel-t

This is a VEGAS bug. Sometimes the Create Nested Timeline option does not keep the correct project settings when creating the nest. See my screen record bellow showing this bug.
