AE does not open Vegas projects. The two companies are in competition.

If you would like help with other "formats, videos, projects," kindly share specifically what you have tried that doesn't work, and your end production goals. There are many video formats and alternatives that work perfectly in AE, but don't expect a lot of joy exporting EDL.

I'm not trying to open a .veg file in AE, I'm trying to export my vegas project to a format that is accepted by AE. No matter how I export the vegas project it will not import to After Effects. I have stripped all audio and rendered it separately to add to the composition in AE, there is one track (video track) of a bunch of small clips lined up next to eachother and I had planned on adding presets and doing other small detailing in AE but I can't get the video to AE with the clips separated still.

Hope this helps.

AE will not accept any project file created or exported by Vegas. You need to render your video to a video file and import that into AE.

So I'm supposed to render and bring in each clip separate??

Or you can render them as one big clip and then separate them within AE.

Thanks, thought there was definitely a way around this but I'm okay with doing this if I have to.

I don't think this has been resolved, and like you said, nobody seems to have this issue. Despite the advice above, you should be able to export your project to After Effects without rendering your video. Don't know about AAF, but *.prproj is also listed export format (at least in Vegas 14, can't recall if it was 12 but seem to recall it was, if not you just might need to upgrade. Certainly you should be able to export an EDL. Sometimes After Effects complains that the material has been created by an earlier version and needs to be converted, which it then does.

Rainer, have you been able to make it work?

Use an EDL. Don't expect too much. Load the free. "Import Sony Vegas EDL" script into AE. Check out this thread
