Can’t load my project file .veg

Hello,

I worked on my video in Vegas Pro 18 for a few days without problems.

When I wanted to continue my work today, I was not able to open the project file .veg again.
When opening, project loading bar stopped at 20% and Vegas closed without error message.
I tried to rename folder with my project files => Vegas loads the project to 100%, then ask for a project files. I can put them offline or specify a new address to them but Vegas close again without any error message.

I tried to open the project in Vegas Pro 19 but result is completely the same.

Other project files open normally.

Tried to use open .bak file and no change.

Tried to reset Vegas and also no chgange.

Can someone please help me? I lost many hours of my work without any error message :(

@Petane Hi, someone might have a better answer but i would go through loading the files back into the folder as you've been doing but just one by one & see if you can see if it's one of the files that Vegas doesn't like,

Also clear out the AppData folder first, C:\Users\your name\AppData\Local\VEGAS Pro\18.0, just delete everything in that folder, Vegas will take a bit longer to load next time but it will rebuild all those files & hopefully clear away any temp files from the 'bad' project.

I tried to rename 3 different video files (out of 20) one by one and the result is always loading project to 100%, then Vegas asks for a project files. I can put them offline or specify a new address to them but Vegas close again without any error message.

@Petane When you specify a new address is that a folder or an individual file?

Try resetting Vegas.

Given that the crash only occurs on this project but not others, a possibility is that at least one media event being used in the project is corrupt in some way - maybe one that was added yesterday before saving.

When something like this happened to me many years ago, I stumbled on identifying the problem video event when looking at the video thumbnails from the relevant folder/drive in Vegas Pro's Explorer window (no .veg project needs to be opened to do this). All the video events had a sample image in the thumbnails - all but one that is, it only having a generic icon in the thumbnail. After removing that from the folder on the relevant computer drive, the project opened properly though 'ignore missing media' had to be selected - and then the 'empty' corrupt video event was removed from the project and the project saved again. It was then smooth sailing.

If it is corrupt media, perhaps move any media that you recall adding yesterday to another folder and then see if the .veg file opens even with missing media. If it does and Vegas Pro doesn't close, you've limited your search to 'yesterday's media.

At least exploring the above will either identify or eliminate corrupt media as being the cause of the problem.

This has just happened to me. Two projects with files in different folders will now not open, even though other projects will. Vegas really has caused me so many problems and affected my workflow so much. It is staggering really. The support from the Vegas team and this forum has been amazing though. But I have never had such issues with any programme as I have with Vegas Pro!
