Can't Save Video From SD Card In Vegas Pro 16?

Ken-Theriot wrote on 11/21/2019, 3:27 PM

I recorded some test video onto an SD card with my Canon Vixia, and Vegas seems to be having some problems. I usually connect my camera to the computer and it imports videos automatically. But I'd like to be able to use the SD card.

So I successfully recorded onto the card and then put the card into my computer. Vegas recognized it with "Device Explorer/Import files from your camera or other devices..." In the Device Explorer window, I click on the thumbnail of the video and then "Import Selected Clip." It comes into my Project Media area just fine. And I can drag the video onto a track and play it. HOWEVER, when I try to save the Vegas file to my computer I get an error saying "Vegas160.exe - You can't save to "This PC." Pleas choose another location."

What do I need to do in order to save to my computer? It's almost like it didn't really import, but is playing it from the memory card, even though I clicked "Import Selected Clip."

Thanks!

I found a workaround by simply importing media from my computer and navigating my way into all the folders created by the Vixia until I get to Stream. The video file is in there. When I do it that way, I can save the veg to my computer. It seems like a few extra steps than should be necessary though. But at least this will work for me for now.

Sounds like your path or permissions or UAC or security are wrong. Windows, not Vegas.

The error window heading is "Vegas160.exe" which led me to believe it was a problem with Vegas. But if this does not sound like something that is common with using SD cards, I'll just use the workaround I mentioned above. Thanks!

Vegas160.exe - You can't save to "This PC."

Something is preventing Vegas from saving to a purported location.

It will happen again, until you clear the path. "This PC" sounds like a 100% bogus file path.

I think it's just the default name of my new computer. I tried selecting the default Videos folder and got this error. I think this one is going to stay a mystery. Thanks for the help. Luckily I have the workaround - NOT using the "Device Explorer/Import files from your camera or other devices..." method. But instead, importing as usual, but from the sub sub directory of "Stream" on the card. That method seems to work just fine.

Seems like you suspect one issue of copying your SD files to your online storage (because you don't always want to mount your SD card when you work on the project). You were expecting Vegas "device explorer" to import those files somewhere to your local storage. Seems reasonable. But it seems to me Vegas should have told you or given you an option of where to put them on your local disks. When that is done, it should be a done deal, no further "saving" of them needed. (Disclaimer: I have not used the device explorer and there is something wrong with the help file so ...)

Your error message may be a separate issue, which is the path given to the "Save" dialog for the project itself. "This PC" is the name given to the artificial folder that contains all the drive letters and other cruft Windows 10 puts there for your convenience. It's not a real folder. Maybe you were supposed to navigate somewhere on a local disk first using that dialog. Have a look at (or post) your Save dialog before pushing the button & maybe someone will see something.

I did navigate through to my standard Videos folder when trying this.
