Cannot import MP4 files generated by my ANNKE security camera system

I am using Movie Studio 15.0. I have never had a problem importing MP4 files. Recently, and for the first time I created ANNKE MP4 files and attempted to import them into Movie Studio but Movie Studio will not allow them. Most of my editing is pretty simple stuff and Movie Studio 15.0 works just fine for me. But since I now want to edit ANNKE files I have to find a way to import them. I looked at competing products that will allow these ANNKE MP4 files but I would prefer to stay with what I know. So here is my question... I am getting popups for Movie Studio 17 Platinum @ 40 bucks. No need to upgrade if 17, like 15 does not fix this. Can anyone tell me if 17 will read these MP4 files or if there is a refund if I get 17 but it will not read these files either?

I attempted several "fixes" addressing this problem (in a general way) on Youtube but no joy.

Products like the VLC viewer read the ANNKE MP4 files just fine but, of course, there is no edit capability.

I contacted ANNKE customer support and was told to use VLC. Thanks for nothing, ANNKE support!

Need to test it. So far I know, security system files are not easy to be opened - so probably need to converted or else.

Is it possible for you to share the ANNKE MP4 file via Google Drive / Dropbox / etc ?

Thank for responding. Did not know "security system files are not easy to be opened ". After publishing my post here I played around some more and stumble on the 30 day trial for 17 Vegas offers. Installed, fired it up and tried to import an ANNKE MP4. No joy. Then I attempted to import a VLC converted MP4 created from an ANNKE MP4. Bingo! (15 would import either). VLC allows for multiple file conversions. So while it is nothing more than a minor irritation to have to do the VLC step, it ain't no big deal either and something I can easily deal with. And while I have not yet had the time to research much new stuff in 17 I LOVE the new "preview" window. And, of course, they got my 40 bucks.

I have dealt with security footage from an Amcrest camera and they don't make it easy. I had to use VLC to convert it for use in Vegas. Many security companies have their own software. i don't know where they get these strange formats.

Try converting in Handbrake.
