Capture doesn't recognize FireWire port

I've bought a new Windows 10 PC and Movie Studio 14 Suite. I'm on my second FireWire card (first StarTech, now Vantec). I've downloaded the legacy host driver from Microsoft and installed. The device manager says it's working. I've tried two different FireWire cables, even a second digital camera input, but all I get is "connect a device." I even tried the Ulead program that came with the StarTech card, but it doesn't see the card, either. Any ideas before I go buy a used XP machine and resurrect my old Vegas 7 software?

A long shot, but is it recognised if you connect the device and have it switched on before turning the PC on? Cheers, Robbie

Disable Device Control.

Tried both those things. Any more ideas other than seeing if my old XP tower still works?

I always found the Sony Vidcap a bit hit and miss and could never pick why I could get it to work sometimes (occasionally) and not others (regularly). For DV captures I've found Scenalyzer to be pretty reliable and it regularly worked were other capture apps haven't, even now in Win10. Its no longer maintained or sold but the developer has made it available free from http://www.scenalyzer.com/. May be worth a try if you're working with DV. .I haven't tried it with AVCHD so not sure if it will work for that format.

Try Scenealyzer in place of Vidcap.
