Capturing HD Video Straight Into Vegas Pro 14 from a Camcorder

LordPhunk wrote on 1/16/2018, 8:51 AM

What is the correct way to record video live from my HD camcorder straight into Vegas? I am having a hard time finding these instructions. I am using Vegas Pro 14 Edit, a Canon HG 10 camcorder, & a Windows 10 PC. I only have USB connections on this PC, & no specific video only inputs. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Connect your camera via USB to computer, open Vegas then go to VIEW>DEVICE EXPLORER. This should show the scenes on your camera. You can select the folder to transfer files to and the scenes you want transferred. This process will stitch together any scenes that have succumbed to the file size limitation during recording.

Thanks for your response, david-tu! Will this process enable video that is being recorded live on the camcorder to appear on the Vegas video timeline in real-time?

I think he's looking for live capture and realtime preview.

Oops, sorry missed that. No, this is not for live capture. For live you will need a video capture card like a Blackmagic Design (although I am not sure which or if any of the models are supported by Vegas)

Or a Firewire-DV/HDV device.

This may shed a little light on HD/4k capture for Vegas.
