Chroma-Keyer Pickup Pen does not select a color properly

ColdWeather wrote on 11/8/2021, 12:05 PM

Since update from V18 to V19 (from today on Build 424) the Vegas own Croma-Keyer color pick up pen does not work properly more:

- got a JPG picture (portrait) with a green background

- added the picture to the timeline as an event

- added Picture-In-Picture FX to the event (the picture should be in the left upper corner, that's why)

- added Chroma-Keyer FX to the event

- clicked on the color bar in the Chroma-Keyer FX editor to set the key color

- chose a color pick up pen

- clicked by this pen on the green color in the picture background

- got not green but some dark red color; no expected effect by Chroma Keyer

- switched to RGB, put "0,0; 1,0; 0,0" manually - it worked.

- also selecting a preset "green screen" worked fine.

Conclusion: cannot use the color pick up pen at all.

Not if your background is not uniform.

Also, I think you should be applying Chroma Key at the media level, not on the effected event.

But absolutely, filled with the same colour by PaintShop Pro. Look at the enlarged picture:

I move a JPG file to the timeline video track and add FX to this event/media. The point is, under V18 it worked fine with all pictures I prepared with the green background; just after updating to V19 - does not! Meanwhile I found out, also in other FXs with the color selection possibility the color pickup tool delivers wild results!

@ColdWeather There is a known issue with picking a color due to the dpi scaling (working with multiple monitors and different scaling). We created a bug report for this and we will fix this issue in an update.

In color grading panel -> Lift wheel -> black point picker is a live feedback indicator (preview region) of the current picked color. This will show the issue.

Thank you for the Information and working on issues.

What true is, I really got two monitors - a FHD and a 4K - (actually three - a 4K TV is also connected to my GeForce RTX 3060) using the 4K monitor as the video preview, but the problem persists even when the second monitor is off. I hope, the next update is coming soon.

Well, I started my Vegas19 again to check the info above, went to the color grading panel und found out, the black point picker indicated absolut correct colors, wherever I pointed to, including my green background. My green background is shown as R=0, G=255, B=0. Nevertheless, the color picker from the Chroma Keyer makes from the mentioned green a RGB color [0.13 0.13 0.13].

But it's not a solution, just a work around...
