Closed Captioning 608 and 708

James Moore wrote on 10/25/2022, 11:45 AM

Hi,

I have been delivering MPEG2 content to broadcasters using Vegas Pro 16. I have been informed that the closed caption data is correct in 608 but the 708 data stream is empty. How do I get my closed caption data in both the 608 and 708 data stream?

Thank you in advance for any light you can shed on this matter.

James

The Broadcaster included these 2 options

"1. Provide an mpg with correct data on 708 (instead of empty 708)
2. If possible, provide an mpg without the empty 708 (608 only)"

Is it possible to do this with Vegas?

Sorry, I don't think Vegas Pro 16 supports 708 captioning. There were some changes recently in Vegas 20 but I haven't gotten around to testing them. You can download a trial version.

Hi Musicvid,

Thanks for your reply! There is 708 captioning happening in V16 it is just an empty data stream. I would happily upgrade to V20 if it solved this issue for me. Could you try something in V20 for me? On the timeline when you hit "c' and then when the command comes up does and you pull down the drop-down menu does it makes reference to 708? In my window, image attached, you can see reference to 608

Sorry to have misled you. Vegas Pro 20, like your version, supports 608 captions in a 608 or 708 container. It does not support 708 captions natively.

Since it supports either a 608 or a 708 container then it may solve the problem the broadcaster is having. The problem is there is an empty data stream in the 708 container out of V16. I can supply them only 608 if I like. How do you specify the container in V20?

thanks for your help on this Musicvid!

Maybe Marco knows (I saw him commenting on this stuff in another thread) Marco, got your ears on?
