Color correction not working

TomB wrote on 1/18/2020, 8:29 PM

I know I must be doing something painfully obviously wrong but I can't get of the color correction features to work.

Footage is from a GoPro8 mp4.

Waveform shows activity as it plays.

Alt+G gives me the interface and the slider, tabs, buttons, etc., all move as expected but no change to my video.

It's been a long time since I've worked with Vegas and just recently upgraded to 17. I'm thinking I have forgotten or overlooked a setting. Can someone tell me what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks,

TB

Is your split screen button activated? Is the effect muted?

TomB wrote on 1/18/2020, 9:31 PM

I had it set to Select All. When I chose Select Left or Right it works. Also only the left or right side of the waveform works. This is not what I am seeing on many YT vids showing the operation.

Just so we are clear... muted where? Do you mean does it have a muted appearance. No to that. It looks normal. My Preview has a radio button that says FX Bypassed and I can't seem to un-select that.

... and no the Bypass Color Grading is not in bypass mode.

Just another update. If I Select All and then drag a little square in my preview.... then the color corrector works on the entire preview and Waveform except for the square area. This seems exactly backwards from what I want. I saw a YT vid where someone was using FX and said before you will see in the preview the changes you make you have to xxx? I have lost that video but whatever he did I think that's what I may be missing if that rings any bells with anyone.

@TomB - Hi! It’s very easy to get out of sync with the various feature sets of the Preview Window. At some point you may have Copied to Pasteboard, and by doing that and in one of the sequences have applied the Pasteboard by dragging that little square you are in effect applying what is on the Pasteboard.

Some ScreenGrabs may help us?

I wouldn't know what to make a screen grab of. I've started the project over and rebooted the PC several times. If I don't select something in that preview I can't see what I am adjusting. It's like "Select All" is on all teh time and acting as a mask. The other thing I can't figure out is how to turn off grid or safe areas. It's sort of like I have a selection of options but can never clear them. I can't clear out "safe areas" or "grid lines" or "select all". I can choose any of them but never have a clean slate preview screen.

I figured it out. I reset Vegas and it worked. But I still couldn't turn Safe Areas off and realized all I had to do was click that grid button. Then I realized the Select Left, Right, All, worked the same way. All I had to do was click the button to turn Select All off once it was set.

@TomB - Excellent! Another happy Customer.

Um, going through the manual (F1) wont hurt either.

Done.... I didn't understand what you meant when you asked is the button activated. It wasn't registering with me that it was lit up. I thought you meant had I selected one of the options Left, Right, All.This all started with me trying to get a 240fps GoPro clip to preview smoothly. Which I still haven't solved. I got side tracked and apparently turned the switch on not realizing the button would turn them off.

adis-a3097 --- I had the pdf open but it just wasn't hitting home. As I read page 413 today it makes sense.
