Color Matching

I have two tracks that I need to color match but when using Alt-G to color correct Vegas brings up the one clip for correcting which is logical but the only way to see if it closely matches my other track I have to Alt-G again so I can go back and scrub between the two tracks and see if they are close to what I want. Is there a way to scrub to my other track without exiting the color grading panel each time?

You can use the Split Screen Preview. Copy one scene to clipboard and then compare using split screens.

Can you please explain this a bit further. I've been working with it for about an hour now and just can't get it. When I use the clipboard and drag an area all I get is black. Would you kind enough to tell me what steps to take from from here. Thanks

I may have spoke too soon. Depending on your situation. You can only compare an UN-EFFECTED scene to another scene. So if you have color graded both tracks, it won't work right. If you are trying to match a track that has not been graded, it will work. Let me know and I will do a video showing how to do it.

Here's what I do:

  • On the top track, enable Event Pan/Crop, Check "Mask," and draw a rectangular selection around the left half of the image.
  • You "can" use Track Motion on the bottom track to move the right half of the image over if you wish.
  • Using the Track Mute buttons, you can see the split view, or the bottom track in its entirety.
  • I sometimes place a white line image on a separate track above to aid in my comparison.
