color matching in Vegas Pro 18

jredmond wrote on 2/2/2022, 12:57 PM

I had a video shoot several month ago where I was shooting someone with different camera angles. I have a Sony FS7 and rented another FS7 to match the look. Got the rental, went through all the menus of the rental and got all the settings to be the same as my FS7. As it turns out the internal battery was dead and did not save the settings. Figured this out after the shoot and all the files from that camera were date Oct 2016.

So now I have two camera that don't match. Seems like the skin tones and shirt of the person is way off. My client keeps asking when are you going to fix the color.

If someone really knows how to color correct and fix this problem I would be willing to pay. In the meantime is there a good add-on program that will work?

Thanks for your help. James

Have you tried Vegas Color Match yet? It's included in VP18.

Thanks. I have. Just doesn't seem to do it. The skin tones look the same as before...

You are totally welcome to upload screenshots from the original footages and let people here try their hand.

Graide Color Match is quite good. It should have a free trial.

@jredmond, have you really tried the colormatch?

Several months ago I tried Graide Color Match and was not able to sample it again. When I went to buy it got the message "As there is currently no international reseller for Graide products, purchases can only be made from Germany at this time. I am sorry for the inconvenience." So I guess it is only available in Germany.

@jredmond

Just go to the German version of the developer website: https://www.semw-software.com/de/colormatch/

See my screen record showing the procedure:

The developer @Satevis is also a member of this forum. You can send him a private message if you wish in this link: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/users/profile/Satevis/

I made a short video where I used Color Match on the image of 4 different cameras. But you should do your own tests to see if it meets your needs. Good luck!

thanks Joelson. The tutorial video was excellent, much better than the video on their website. Your video of showing how to buy it was very helpful too! Thanks again. James

I would have initially recommended Graide Color Match (I've owned it for a couple of years), but when I went to the website and saw it was for sale only in Germany, I didn't post the information. It's an amazing piece of software that I feel doesn't get the "respect" when trying to match colors with different cameras or even in the same clip where lighting has changed slightly.

@Reyfox

The Graide Color Match from the developer Sateveis has far superior results when compared to the native Color Match of Vegas, Premiere and Davince Resolve.

I agree with your words, Graide color Match deserves more prominence and recognition as it is a really powerful and impressive feature at what it does. Therefore, soon I will make a more complete tutorial of this resource to publish here on the forum and on Youtube.

Joelson_Forte I think it would be great if you make another tutorial. As I remember it when I downloaded it many months ago I could not get results for I am now sure I was not doing it correctly. The video on Vimeo was good.

I did as you recommended to buy it using the German language, however when you hit buy, it takes you to the comment page and not a purchase page (all in German).

Joelson_Forte thanks again for all your help.

@joelsonforte.br I had a problem with a clip where the person speaking was holding paper which when moved into camera view, changed the color of the clip. Yes, should have used manual white balance, but had zero time. Fix it in post... Well, without Color Match, it would have been a frame by frame correcting, Color Match did it in two clips.

I bought it along with Color Curves as a package 2 years ago.

I'd like to say thank you to everyone who contacted me regarding the international sales issue. I've now been able to find a solution and am happy to report that Graide sales are back up again on https://www.semw-software.com. Let me know if you notice any issues.

Side note: here is a tutorial for Graide Color Curves that got me to buy both the Curves and Color Match as a package.
