Color Selection Tool (eyedropper) Not Accurate

lee-f wrote on 11/5/2018, 3:13 PM

Hello! This is my first time posting hereut i really need some help!

I'm currently using VEGAS Pro 14 and I'm having an issue with (Legacy) Text; whenever I try to color select using the eyedropper tool, it is not accurate - it will either select a color I didn't click on or it will automatically make the text grey, the same color as my program.

http://gyazo.com/f6a0204557ad240431b298ae213a54e6 (this is what it looks like)

This problem is only present with Legacy Text, Titles & Text works fine, as well as any other effect or preset that gives you the color selection option.

I use (Legacy) Text very frequently and need this resolved!

Things I have tried are:

Restarting my computer
Resetting VEGAS to default settings
Uninstalling and reinstalling VEGAS
Updating my graphic drivers

if anyone has suggestions then please say so!

Did you highlight the text that you want the color change to be applied to? Without highlighting it, it wont work.

I have highlighted it but still the same effect

@lee-f I looked at your video and can see that you are moving the focus away from the generated text vent to the color bar event, that doesn't work. You need to open the generated text event for editing, highlight the text inside it and now you can use the eyedropper under properties. But, do not move the focus away from the generated text event!

Edit: Give me a second... I need to start my other PC, I don't have VP14 on this one.

Edit: I retract my previous statement, it should work as it works on my system with VP14. Try disabling GPU Acceleration.

@OldSmoke I've disabled GPU acceleration but the same thing is still happening

I'm unable to reproduce the problem in VP14 using the eyedropper in (Legacy) Text. Eyedropper works for me. What graphic card are you using in your system? Could be driver problem. I'm using an old card, GTX560 .. This is (Legacy) Text. Maybe a new card's drivers don't support things now.

I use an AMD card and have no issue and if that would really be a bug, someone would have reported already?

I use a Nvida GTX graphics card - I’ve had the card for 6 months though and I never had this problem until today, windows updated today, however, which I suppose could be part of the issue; but I still wouldn’t know how to fix it if that were the case, and i’ve never heard of VEGAS being affected by windows updates

OldSmoke wrote on 11/5/2018, 10:40 PM

@lee-f It could well be that Windows updated the GPU driver. I check on that and worst case uninstall it with a proper tool and reinstall the latest or a version that works. Some the users in this forum have great experiences with Nvidia drivers but we would need to know the exact model of graphic card you have.

@OldSmoke @xberk I've checked which model of graphics card I have and it gave me two cards, both an Intel graphics and Nvida, however, my vegas primarily uses Nvida from what i can tell

Kinvermark wrote on 11/6/2018, 10:50 AM

Check the preferences (video tab) to know for sure which one Vegas is using.

lee-f wrote on 11/6/2018, 11:35 AM

@Kinvermark Vegas is using the Nvida card

I tried with Vegas 14. Sorry, cannot reproduce this error . I am using AMD. Is there anything unusual about your monitors/graphics system?

Musicvid wrote on 11/6/2018, 12:59 PM

Just to rule out the absurd, plug in a generic USB mouse.

I wouldn't know what would be unusual, nothing has been altered about this computer since the day I got it, and I've been using VEGAS on it regularly since then.

When I first got it though, I had an issue where every effect made clips black and white and became uneditable, regardless of whether it was a color corrective effect or not, I was able to fix this by customizing VEGAS from my graphics card control panel and setting it to use "integrated graphics", however, as I mentioned previously, this problem is recent and I have able to properly use the color selection tool up until yesterday morning so I'm not sure if having it on "integrated graphics" could be the issue.

lee-f wrote on 11/6/2018, 1:19 PM

@Musicvid I typically use a standard USB mouse, however, I have tried unplugging it and using my trackpad, the same thing still happens though.

Kinvermark wrote on 11/6/2018, 1:27 PM

Well, it may be that a recent OS or driver update has exposed an underlying problem.

, I was able to fix this by customizing VEGAS from my graphics card control panel and setting it to use "integrated graphics",

This makes me suspicious - maybe try changing that back as a test.

I changed it back to default settings, the same error is still happening, I'm not sure what else to try.
