Constant issues scrubbing / moving / selecting cursor

ColdHardDrewth wrote on 10/16/2018, 4:26 AM

Not sure how this is not something people are talking about so it must be an issue with my side but almost everytime I click the black line on the cursor and try to pull it forward along the clip it somehow thinks I'm clicking the clip and pulling it along the timeline instead of clicking the black line that is over the timeline. I have to keep resetting things. I also have frequent issues with double clicking a clip and then opening up A / B timelines. Except I DON'T double click. It seems to think I'm clicking on the edges when I don't. It would be nice to "deactivate" these shortcuts or features if we don't use them to speed up our work.

And I know I've said before the black cursor line should be MUCH thicker so it's easier to grab and not to miss or if the computer thinks I'm missing it it would be easier to detect. I'm also constantly dealing with yellow "loop region" thinking that I've activated or clicked it or placed loop region bar places, although I do have it checked to collapse loop region when not in use. I just wish that entire bar could be hidden. This wasn't AS bad in previous versions but it has always been an issue. Possibly bigger monitors make it harder to work with small lines and scrubbers.

There should just be bigger buttons, scrubbers tops (whatever you call the gray thing about the black cursor line), and lines for people like me who are either too stupid, too blind, or have imprecise mice.

Inadvertent double-clicking is a symptom that a mouse is failing. I've had it happen on a couple. Try cleaning what parts of it you can. I have vague memories of cleaning the microswitches inside a mouse with some electrical cleaning spray once. I think it bought me a few months before I had to replace it.

Thanks. I'll work on that. It could explain the sudden increase in issues for sure! I still stand by some of the stuff as I've said this has been an issue with me for years even if in much smaller ways.

The black cursor line should be thicker or able to be. The buttons should be able to be larger. The buttons under the video preview window should have more distance (often my program thinks I'm clicking the button next to the one I want to click and I'm back at the beginning of the timeline). Ability to disable the A/B activation that keeps splitting my timelines (I can't always figure out how to undo it and CTRL Z doesn't do anything) and Loop region bar that keeps messing things up and initiating loops.

In general, more accessibility for bad eyes / less accidental clicks. Sorry that I'm so stupid, but it's good if this program is easy for us lowest common denominator fools too lol

But if your mouse is failing then the accuracy of placing the cursor may also be compromised I would have thought.

Expand your timeline view so you can see exactly where you are clicking. Yes, it comes at the price if a smaller preview, but I'm resigned to the fact that I can't have both.

yeah, it is failing, but these issues predate it by years. I think Musicvid is right. sadly, parts of the ui and shortcuts i dislike won't be going away and i'm stuck. could also be a personal coordination issue.

Maybe try a trackball? Some folk swear by them.

I have to use a trackball. It is soooo much better than a mouse. I started with it for Vegas years ago, now I use it always and for everything. So much better than dragging a mouse around. I spend a lot of my time in a recliner because of my back. Put my trackball right on the armrest. Perfect for Vegas, perfect for the rest of Windows, etc. I use a Kensington Orbit (wireless) now after trying just about every other trackball out there. Easy to clean, easy to replace batteries, uses a tiny little USB dongle. Way, way better than any mouse.
