Digital Juice MOV files with Magix Movie Studio 17.0 Platinum

I have not been able to get Magix Movie Studio 17.0 Platinum to import or play a Digital Juice MOV file. The file types available from Digital Juice require alpha channel support. They offer:

- Apple ProRes W/Alpha
- Quick Time PNG with Embedded Alpha
- Quick Time JPEG with Separated Alpha

I used an older version of Movie Studio with Digital Juice back in 2010 and they worked fine together then. But now I'm using the latest version of both Movie Studio and Digital Juice as of May 25, 2021.

So far, I have tried:

- Movie Studio / Options / Preferences / Deprecated Features / Enable the QuickTime plugin
- Installing Apple Quick Time 7.7.9 and also 7.6 (with removal and reboots after each install)
- Removed Apple Quick Time and tried QuickTime_Alternatative_322.exe. No change.
- Digital Juice offers formats called Apple ProRes, PNG and JPEG. I tried them all but none would import.
- Tried Platinum / Project / Add Media. An error message says "The application does not support this file type."
- Tried dragging each kind of file into the timeline. None would drag in.
- Tried using a conversion tool to convert to other formats, including AVI. So far, I have not found one that will maintain the alpha channel and still be accepted by Movie Studio 17.0 Platinum
- Contacted Digital Juice support. They recommended switching to a different video editor, but they didn't seem to know much about Movie Studio.

Can you tell me how to use Digital Juice animation MOV files (lower thirds, etc) with Movie Studio 17.0 Platinum?

You are correct about the alpha. JPG does not have alpha either which is why it requires the second separate file. Technically, the MP4 file would work as well with a second separate mask file.

However, PNG Sequence should work with Apple Quicktime installed and turned on. You may need to upgrade to VEGAS Pro 18 to get ProRes support - I don't know if Movie Studio offers that.

Upgrading to VEGAS Pro 18 Edit was the ticket. I just upgraded and was able to pull in the Digital Juice MOV file on the first try (the PNG version is the only one I've tried so far).

For anyone else working through this, after installing VEGAS Pro 18 Edit, I rebooted... Checked the box under VEGAS Pro 18 Edit / Options / Preferences / Deprecated Features / Enable the QuickTime plugin... rebooted again and then fresh installed Apple Quick Time 7.7.9.

Thanks for your advice jetdv!

...and then fresh installed Apple Quick Time 7.7.9.

You should not need to do that last part since the Vegas legacy QT plugin does not use that library.

Good to know, Musicvid. Thank you! That'll save me having to reinstall it after every reboot because Windows 10 (I guess) uninstalls it every time I reboot.
