Entire track opening in audio editor instead of selected event audio

I'm using Vegas Pro 15 (build 416) and Soundforge Audio Studio 12 (Build 361). I have a 45 minute project with 9 events. The source media is a single video and I have edited out the bits I don't need, added fades, etc. I have already used "Open in audio editor" to fix the audio in one event and it worked really well - just as described in the manual.

It is the last event in this project that is giving trouble. I select the audio and then "Open in audio editor", but I get the entire 45 minute audio track, not just the few minutes I selected. I've tried changing "Render Options / Only render loop region" on & off in case it was affecting it but that makes no difference. I've also tried marking / not marking the loop region and it makes no difference. I have rendered the event audio out to a wav file and I'll edit that and import it back in a separate track, but I can't imagine what the real problem is and it just wastes so much time trying to get around things like this. Suggestions please.

PC is 64bit Windows 10 with 16GB.

You can't open events in Sound Forge, only the source. Try "Open a Copy" in Sound Forge, and add it back in as a Take. Or render an audio Subclip. Several ways to get around this. Vegas Help is the place to start.

Right-clicking the event and selecting "Open in Sound Forge" opens the event's entire audio file, It does not create a new 'Take' and any editing and if saved the changes will be permanent (aka, destructive editing).
As @Musicvid stated, "Open copy in Sound Forge" creates a new 'Take' which is a copy of only the event, and subsequently opens that in the audio editor (Sound Forge). After the take is created, you can toggle though the takes back in Vegas with the keyboard shortcut "T" or right-click the event and select the desired 'Active' take.

Thanks for adding detail @rraud

Thanks for the suggestions, but it's still a problem whether I use "Open with-" or "Open copy in-". I did make a sub-clip, but it appeared in the media bin and I couldn't see how to load it into SF so I moved on due to time constraints and some confusion.

I have since discovered that it is only the last take's audio that is affected by this problem! I've checked a couple of similar projects and the problem is the same - only the last take is affected. It might possibly have something to do with the source material or the way I chopped the unwanted tail end off. Maybe I should put an empty take at the end?

Anyway, in this case the source is VHS tape captured as s-video via a TBC using an Avermedia USB device to normal DVD-ready mpeg2+layer 2 audio. It all loads easily into the timeline and is easy to edit. Rendering the selected audio worked well and the wave file from SF AS12 was easily dropped back into the take. The only thing I found was that because I had boosted the audio in the track header it came back hot but it was easily adjusted to match the rest with the take's volume handle.

Immediately after selecting "Open copy in Sound Forge" the new 'take' (event file) should open automatically in Sound Forge. if...an audio editor's path is designated in VP's "Options> Preferences> Audio> Preferred audio editor". Use the 'Browse' button to set the path to Sound Forge.
I do not have SF AS-12, but as an example, the path to SF Pro-13 is:
"C:\Program Files\SOUND FORGE\SOUND FORGE Pro 13.0\Forge130.exe"
