Ghosting Rendering 1920x1080 16:9 29.97 ProRes 422 LT footage to DVD

GeoffreyDean33 wrote on 6/14/2017, 12:43 PM

I'm using the Default "Main Concept MPEG-2 * DVD Architect NTSC Widescreen Video stream" of Vegas Pro 10 settings.

The footage is from a Sony EX1 camera fed into a Panasonic switcher and then to a Ronin recorder.

When I changed the default render setting from 29.97 to 30, the problem seems to go away. Will DVD's produced with this setting play correctly in customers' players?

Disable Resample and try again.

NTSC frame rate is 29.970, not 30.

Right click on each clip in the timeline and click on "Disable Resample"?

Still happening.

Do you see this on the final DVD when playing on a TV? That frame is showing interlacing which is normal when freezing a frame of NTSC video.

What is the difference between these two video files? The top one directly out of the camera (Sony EX1) renders fine. The bottom one went to a Panasonic Switcher and then to a Ronin recorder and is the one giving me problems when rendering.

We are missing key information. Go to the TREE view and publish that.

This is the Ronin - problem footage.

Sometimes Vegas does not recognize the field order of QT files. Go to your media pool and check properties of this file and make sure it is showing Upper Field First.

GeoffreyDean33 wrote on 6/14/2017, 1:19 PM

Upper Fields is what the project properties is set to. I think I even tried changing it with no improvement.

Former user wrote on 6/14/2017, 1:35 PM

Not the project properties, but that particular media property. Go to that clip in the media pool, rightclick and select properties. See what the field order says.

Well, that looks right. And you are seeing this on your final DVD when playing on a TV?

GeoffreyDean33 wrote on 6/14/2017, 1:50 PM

Yes. But not on footage straight out of the camera. I have a feeling the Panasonic switcher is doing something to cause the issue.

Former user wrote on 6/14/2017, 2:00 PM

It might be messing with field order or down rezzing. No way to know having the footage to compare. Sorry I wasn't much help.

GeoffreyDean33 wrote on 6/14/2017, 2:06 PM

Can you think of a work around? Could I render to a progressive file then put that in a new timeline and render that to MPEG2/DVD?

GeoffreyDean33 wrote on 6/14/2017, 2:57 PM

So, I just changed the following:

  • Media Properties - Lower fields first
  • Project Properties - Lower fields first
  • Render Settings - Lower fields first

Now the DVD plays great. Is Lower Fields First going to present a problem on customer's players?

Former user wrote on 6/14/2017, 3:38 PM

No, if it plays okay, DVDs can be either field.
