Glitchy plugins out of the box

Bobby-Powell-TTiV wrote on 3/22/2021, 8:19 PM

So I just upgraded from Studio Platinum 13 to Platinum 17 (Build 204) purchased online. First effect I try to use - Ignite Gunfire - asks me to "Register and Activate" using the email to which my software is registered, the one I successfully logged into this forum with. I input the required info and I'm met with an error message stating "This user does not exist."

I EXIST, DAMMIT! I HAVE A SOUL AND EVERYTHING!!! 😆

Kidding aside, that's when the program crashed and I came here. I'm a journalist, not a tech guy, so my knowledge is limited. If someone needs to see logs or whatnot, you'll have to give me step by step instructions on how to generate it. I'm a troglodyte. I'm sorry.

Also, I have a lot of work put into the presets in my elements in the files of the Studio 13 program. Can I transfer those settings to Studio 17? How might I accomplish this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Let's start by clarifying what your problems are. You appear to have three.

  1. Registering and activating your Ignite plugins with FXHOME
  2. VMS17 Platinum crashing
  3. Transferring presets from VMS13 to 17.

Please confirm.

Okay.

  1. The registering with FXHOME is separate to Vegas registering. Have you had FXHome/Ignite plugins before so already have an account with them. If not you probably need to create one on registering
  2. When does it crash? Any error messages. Do you get an option to send a crash report.
  3. Depends what they are. Vegas OFX presets are stored in User/Documents/OFX Presets and should be automatically picked up by VMS17. But that doesn't apply to all. Please clarify exactly what presets you are referring to.

I checked to see if the old presets (Titles, Transitions, Video/Audio FX, etc) from Studio 13 transferred to a copy of Studio 17 on my old computer. It did. My new computer also has a NEW copy of 13 (downloaded with the original key and default presets, because I've never used it) as well as a copy of Studio 17, which I just bought and haven't used but the one time it crashed.

Taking one problem at a time, what folders in the Studio 17 on the old computer, that has successfully picked up the custom presets from 13, do I need to transfer to the copy of 17 on the new computer.

Go to your User Documents and copy the OFX Presets folder to your new pc. Then when we get 17 going you can check to see what's missing.

I copied the OFX Presets Folder to the new computer successfully. The custom presets I designed are in the new 17 - by name, but not function. Say "Title 10" was a certain size and position on the old computer. The preset "Title 10" - with the proper font, size, color, and text - transferred; but when I place it in the timeline, the position of the title on the screen is WAY wrong. I'm thinking it might have something to do with screen resolution, IDK.

What I do know is that it is late and I am tired. I need to pick this up again tomorrow.

I thank you for your time.

One last thing about the "Ignite Gunfire" plugin: I went through the "Register and Activate" rigmarole again, this time choosing the "new account" option. When It asked me for the "product serial number" I inputted the serial number for the new Studio 17 software on the new computer and received an error message that the number was invalid. I copied and pasted the serial number, so I can not have transposed or forgotten any numbers.

I'll check back in the morning to see your response. Again, thank you for your time.

No your VMS serial isn't the one. You probably should have received a separate number for ignite. Check the email you received from Magix. Scroll down in case you missed it.

Ignite is a different company than Vegas. Logins and registrations are not portable.

I made a short video concerning my text preset problem.

I found the links and serial numbers to activate the other products in the Magix welcome email. Thank you.

This is a new problem? The answer is simple - you've placed the text on the "Picture In Picture" track! Move it to another track or mute or delete the PIP FX that is applied to the track. The PIP track is a trap for new players and personally I wish MagixVegas didn't include it. I delete the track.

@Bobby-Powell-TTiV Getting back to your original problems - Is VMS17 still crashing on you?

Thanks for the PNP knowledge! That was driving me crazy. But yes, it's still crashing. It's gone down 3 times since this morning.
