Give modern GPU support a priority first.

My wish:
- Change clip color in timeline -> This is useful for dividing clips in timeline, and know which shot are..., as we need...
- Native ProRes support
- Native LUT ability
- Tracking ability

-Get rid of the old VFW
-DCP export
-No dropouts in 5.1 surround mixing when adding mutliple tracks and plugins
-Change the look of the mixer like nuendo or protools
-Prores out
-Waveform expands as gain is applied
-Better compatibility when exporting to other DAW's and NLE's

will think of more once more coffee is in the system

Just rewrite the base code, bring it up to modern specs. Cut features at first if you need to. Make it solid, make it fast, make it clean code-wise so further revisions are not painful.

Keep the GUI and start over basically.

-Better GPU support, Quadro etc.
-Video preview window, better performance and preview with CPU and GPU
-Rolling credits generator, no jutter

2. Modern GPU support
3. Ability to import roto mask from other software without plugins.

*MAYBE* they'll take thier current best NLE, with modern GPU support, and adapt all the Vegas GOOD PARTS to it, rename IT to Vegas and POOF! New under code :)

Similar to Resolve -

1) Image stabilization FAST and GOOD

2) "Optical flow" retiming/slow motion.

3) "Per effect" masking

A very modest feature I've been requesting for years:

The ability to vary the colour of Markers for different uses.

Note to those writing to Santa.

If Vegas is to be rewritten then the features already in Vegas that you want retained should also be listed.

Do we still want VFW compatibility? What else can be dropped?

Don't ask, don't get.

Bugs to Fix...

  1. Crash when renaming files in Vegas Explorer window
  2. Panasonic GH4 23.976p and 24p clips have extended video
  3. Crash after paste event attributes
  4. Bug loading windows layout at startup
  5. GPU bug: Pale edges of imported Photoshop layers
  6. Sony Sharpen behaves differently with GPU
  7. Project Properties Frame Rate Undo Bug
  8. Crash clicking empty header of VP Explorer column
  9. Custom toolbar button icons occasionally disappear
  10. The rectangular marquee no longer appears when using a color-selection eyedropper in "Custom" view
  11. Many media bins make project open very slowly
  12. "Vegas Pro has stopped working" crash on exit
  13. Windows 10 Anniversary edition breaks Media Manager
  14. Large numbers of scripts do not show in Scripting menu
  15. HDV/MPEG-2 does not smart render correctly

Codec Stuff...

Advanced Tech Stuff...

  • Robust, modern GPU acceleration
  • Improved slow-motion (optical flow, motion estimation)
  • Motion-adaptive deinterlacing (cf. Handbrake, QTGMC)
  • High-quality denoising
  • Advanced resizing (Spline36/Lanczos3/Lanczos4) or even gamma-aware resizing
  • Improved stabilization

Audio-only...

  • Allow positive values in audio event gain envelopes
  • Ability to auto-update normalizing of audio events (if the loudest parts of some events get trimmed since normalizing)
  • Ability to show separate audio plug-in windows (e.g. a VST master meter in a separate window from a track compressor so we can see both together)
  • Improved audio scrubbing (current implementation is way inferior even to Premiere 6)
    • Lock the pitch and make speech intelligible
    • Scrub audio when using a Contour Shuttle jog wheel
  • Rewire support (Reason into Vegas)

Color-correction...

  • Auto-levels FX
  • Automated mapping of blacks and whites to desired values (e.g. 16 and 235)
  • LUT FX:
    • Import LUT
    • Apply LUT to media/event
    • Adjust and animate strength of LUT
    • Create/Export LUT from single FX' settings or Filter Package (chain of FX) settings
  • Color Curves:
    • much bigger window with a grid
    • a diagonal bottom-left-to-top-right guide line
    • real numbers on the axes
    • live output of coordinates
    • the ability to input precise coordinates
    • ability to change the RGB master curve after "splitting" the individual Red-Green-Blue curves.
    • make "Show all channels" default to ON, like it used to in VP10 and earlier
    • make the curve endpoints deselected by default (to avoid this confusion).

GUI/Workflow Stuff...

  • Media Manager improvements as suggested in this post.
  • Better handling of video levels (but keep the option to edit and preview as it is now)
  • A "Computer RGB <> Studio RGB" switch over the preview window
  • Ability to dynamically pan and zoom preview window
  • Full screen preview, especially on single-screen systems like laptops
  • Live display of the event length on the event itself, especially during ripple editing, like this:

Promote from Internal Preferences to normal Preferences...

  • Show Unquantized event start (I always set TRUE)
  • Show Unquantized event end (I always set TRUE)
  • msAutoSaveInterval (I like 60,000 not 300,000)
  • Use new event delete ripple logic (I always set FALSE)

My 2 Bob's worth:

1] Pre Roll in Pan/Crop that reveals any Transition.

2] Thumbwheel/Scrolling Control in Pan/Crop

3] Audio Event Envelopes - not just the whole Track!

4] External Viewer Safe Grids Overlays. They're in DVDA.

5] Get rid iof ALL the Text modules, 'cept Legacy, and get/buy in a working version.

6] Tracking - yes!

7] Get some Logic to the ergonomics of these great Tools, once and for all:

8] Warning about the Ripple Edit still engaged.

As Nick said: Yah don't ask . . . .

Grazie

@relaxvideo, SeMW Extensions has a script that does this - along with several others - and they're all free :)

Please, for the love of the universe / all that's Holy..

Retain ( and possibly improve ) all eternal imports/exports to Resolve / Prem / AE including the old Vegas .TXT format

I don't see anything like this listed with the Magix NLE

--Full 10BIT support in and out

--Better handling of .mov files, no crashing

---Better nesting support with long form projects, when nesting several scenes onto a master timeline, vegas hangs or crashes. Not sure if it's due to the old VFW implementation.

Not good for a feature film, documentary workflow etc.

Have multiple projects opened under the same instance, like AE, Premiere, FCP, AVID.
