How to change preview playback speed without changing pitch?

Hello, this is NOT a question about the time-stretch effect.

I'd simply like to increase or decrease the playback rate while editing on the timeline - but currently if I do this then the audio pitch changes, so it's difficult to hear clearly what's going on.

Is there some way I can get VP to automatically adjust the audio pitch (back to normal) when changing the playback rate during preview?

It think it would be pretty difficult to implement in realtime (scrubbing?), because of the physics involved. It would introduce distortion, which might be worse than without.

Really? It's a standard feature in YouTube, VLC playback software and many video and audio editors. All you have to do is reduce the frequency value of the audio output data by the inverse (logarithmic?) value of the speed increase.

Playback control of encoded files and manipulation of decoded raw bits stored in transient memory are two different things. One taxes realtime system resources, the other does not so much. That's the best explanation I have for you.

Do you by chance know of a nonlinear editor that does what you want, as an example? It might make for a worthy feature request.

Actually, I can't think of an editor that doesn't do this. After all,l the processing time is negligible compared to video previewing. It seems it's not implemented in VP then, so I've sent a support ticket to request this be implemented in some future upgrade.

I don't think the support team routinely deals with feature requests, but I may be wrong. The developers monitor these forums from time to time so maybe one will read your post and respond.

I don't own a lot of other editors like you. Does Resolve do what you want?

The right place for feature requests is in this thread - that's where the developers check from time to time.
