I can't use Vegas 12: CONSTANT CRASHING!

KeyplayerG wrote on 7/24/2017, 12:07 PM

I cannot get Vegas 12 Pro to work! I've got a 1hr 40min. project loaded and Vegas 12 Pro crashes/hangs up for a minimium of 3 minutes on EVERY SINGLE CLICK! It takes 3- 5 minutes to load the project upon opening. You hit play and it hangs up for 3 minutes. hit stop and it hangs up for another 3 - 5 minutes! I tried a smaller file that was only 50 seconds long and it still hung up on every click but the hang up was so fast as to almost be unnoticeable. You'd hit play and it would play. You hit stop and it would hang up a second or two and stop. The large file is the one I'm TRYING to work on.

I've tried un-installing and re-installing several times. I even tried re-installing by iteration, starting at Vegas 7 to 9 to 12 on the off chance that something was missing from the direct 12 Pro install. I did an online diagnostic with ADK (the builders of my Media PC) to confirm that there were no problems with the computer itself. Every other program works just fine! I only use the program to check my work from Nuendo. I'm not doing any major editing (save the rare family vacation video, the last of which was 2012!!). So, there's little incentive to upgrade. I just need this version to play. Can anybody help me with this? I've already lost 3 days trying to resolve this single issue! 😖

I tried reducing 3 of the 5 sections in the time line. This took the hang up times down to 90 seconds to 3 minutes. While that's better than the other setup it's obviously unworkable, since I'll need all 5 sections to render the complete project. This is really frustrating! Does anybody have an idea of how to fix this?!!?

I would say the fact that it isn't working might be incentive. 😉

I am still using v12 with no issues, so the question is, has it always done this or is this something new? What are the file formats you are loading on the timeline?

I just tried it. It made it worse. I turned it off while there were no files loaded. Then I loaded my "reduced project. (only 2 of the 5 segments)." It hung up the second the files loaded and I gave up waiting after 5 minutes. 😡 What, exactly was turning it off supposed to do?

Technically, I'd have to say it's a new development. I upgraded from a 2009 ADK Win 7 Pro 64bit PC to a 2016 ADK Win 10 Pro 64bit PC last May. As I've stated, I don't use Vegas much. So, only the DAW and peripherals migrated. This past week, I actually need Vegas, So I loaded it up expecting to just pick up where I left off. But, sadly that was NOTt o be the case. Apparently any file larger than a minute in length makes it crash. 😖😱

Sorry, I'm a Composer, who barely uses this program. Clearly, I didn't understand your question. Properties shows the files as Windows Media Files (.wmv). Beyond that, I'll try to follow the instructions you sent to figure out the "Media Info." works. What exactly am I Iooking for to answer your question?

There are many flavors of MP4.

wmv format is not edit friendly in vegas.

try VLC player to convert your .wmv files to MP4

Follow the link David-tu posted and post all the properties and that's all you have to do to get informed help here.

Without the Vegas and MediaInfo properties, it's just another boring guessing game. For everybody.

Wmv is not mp4. That's why we never rely on self-reported properties.

I converted the segments to MP4 files and the problem seems to have cleared up. I'm still waiting on the 5th section to finish converting. But I've already loaded the 1st 4 sections and There's been zero hangups! Thanks a lot!!
