Import Premiere Project?

Product: Vegas Pro 18

Is the Premiere import supposed to include a timeline? When importing a Premiere CS6 file, all I get is the videos in the project bin.

I also get this error:

Exception Message: startIndex cannot be larger than length of string.
Parameter name: startIndex
Stack Trace:   at System.String.Substring(Int32 startIndex, Int32 length)
   at VegasScripts.VegasCommon.GetImportMediaPath(String pathInImportedFile, List`1 mediaLocations)
   at VegasScripts.AEImporter.ReadChildren(XmlElement elt, MediaBin parent)
at VegasScripts.AEImporter.Import(String fileName, Vegas vegas, Project project, LogCallback log, Action createUndoBlock, Action disposeUndoBlock)
at VegasScripts.ProjectInterchangeImporter.HandleInvokedInternal(String openDialogName, String openDialogExt, String undoBlockName, IImporter importer)

Thanks.

Export and Import .xml is about the best you can do. Don't set your expectations too high.

@alifftudm95 - I'm going in the other direction.
@Musicvid - Same result w/xml. Thanks for the suggestion.
If I really need to convert, I'll try to read the edl or xml and assemble the timeline manually.

So now we have gotten from VP to PP do you have a video that will show the OP how to get from PP to VP? Which was that actual question.

Ans much appreciated.

Having tried a couple methods and looked at the Prmr (CS6) exports, I don't think that's going to happen.
For one thing, Vegas doesn't support multiple timelines - I'd imagine that is a deal breaker from the get go. If yoiu need to do, it my guess is:

  1. Import pp into vegas, you'll be asked to find the media.
  2. Read the cuts from the edl (or maybe from the xml), reproduce them in vegas
  3. Tweak

I just had friend send me a simple 3-track Premier Pro CC project (.prproj) to see if the clips would show in the timeline on the three tracks.

  1. Opened the .prproj
  2. It prompted for the first media file (I selected it)
  3. I got the following error, and the timeline is empty

    Exception Message: Invalid project.
    Stack Trace:   at VegasScripts.AEImporter.ImportSequence(XmlElement eltDoc)
at VegasScripts.AEImporter.Import(String fileName, Vegas vegas, Project project, LogCallback log, Action createUndoBlock, Action disposeUndoBlock)
at VegasScripts.ProjectInterchangeImporter.HandleInvokedInternal(String openDialogName, String openDialogExt, String undoBlockName, IImporter importer)

Can Vegas not open even a simple Premier Pro CC project?

As a 16-year programming vet I can understand that some capabilities will not map 1<-->1, but not being able to "play nicely" (or hardly at all!) with the other industry-standard editing apps. does not help us video professionals using Vegas who interact with the rest of the non-Vegas world.
