Importing issue

I'm having an issue with importing videos into Movie Studio 17 (I'm on W7 64-bit) from my camera surveillance system. They are in MP4 format, but MS only sees them as audio files, not video. I have to run them through EaseFab and convert them to .mpg to be able to import them as both video and audio files, but this is a pain as that program is a trial version and only decodes 3 minutes of video. I shouldn't have to pay extra to use these files with this editor and MP4 files should be a non issue.

You haven't been asked to pay anything "extra," and MP4 files can contain thousands of codec combinations, obviously not all of them supported.

Are the files proprietary? We don't know what "Ease Fab" is? Saying they are from a "video surveillance system" means what? Be specific.

If you would like peer support, the place to start is by telling what's inside those files, and there is a way to provide that information. Feel free to start here, thanks.

MS17 requires Win 10. See specs here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/vegas-movie-studio/specifications/#productMenu

Whilst it may work on Win 7 not everything will work as intended.

That explains why a number of things aren't working right, but this problem occurs with MS14 and with Vegas Pro 14, both of which I still have on my computer. Here's the mediainfo on a file with this issue.

These are files I download from my Lorex Camera security system. They play fine in the app VideoLan. EaseFab is a converter program that I use to convert the files to .mpg so that VS will recognize them as both audio and video files. It is limited to only converting 3 minutes of a file in the free version. I don't want to pay for it if I don't have to.

Try converting with Handbrake https://handbrake.fr/

What is the MediaInfo for the original files?

What I posted is the info for the original files as it came from the DVR.

I think it's the mono audio that doesn't pass muster for the decoder.

I agree, the simplest solution is to run them through Handbrake.

Interesting. 17 iterations of this software over years of development and something as simple as mono audio causes an issue like this? I expected better of Vegas. Thanks for the help, guys. Guess I just have to add a step to my workflow with these files.

Possibly it's the combination of mono audio in HEVC that's the issue. HEVC is a modern codec and mono audio became out of fashion 60 or so years ago.

@Rick-Diaz Do you have a small file that you could upload to a cloud service such as Google Drive so others could download and try on their installations.
